My friend once told me that coffee slows down the metabolic process in your body. I don't know if this is true so I'm asking all of you friends out there who knows something about this topic. Thank you.

Those could be facts in the science books. My experience with coffee is that it does me nothing. Once as a high school student, my friends would invite me to their discussion groups-after a long discussion, they would invite everybody for a cup of coffee-this was intended to send away sleep and to allow members continue discussions, but as for me, as soon as am done with the coffee, i would start dozing, my sleep would not be sent away by coffee-i would sleep not because of the coffee, but because of fatigue! coffee does me nothing!

You're right academic2, coffee does me the same way, it has no effect on me,either, when I want to relax, I drink a cup of coffee, then I go to sleep! For me I think it does slow my rate of metabolism, but my dad and my cousin drink coffee, and their rate of metabolism is so fast, that they can't gain any weight, they are very thin!

I don't think so. Maybe to those who are a sick but for me my metabolism is not slowing down. I love coffee and it is one of my favorite drink specially in the morning. I take a cup of coffee in the morning, even in the lunch time, merienda time or dinner time. I will take also a coffee when I feel something unexplain to my body and when I feel stress. For me coffee is my vitamin for my body.

It increases your metabolism because of all the caffine.

Coffee contains caffene which does exactly the opposite - it speeds up your metabolism. Caffene is the active ingredient in all these "sport" drinks - another is glucose. The glucose is basically sugar, and the caffene speeds up your metabolism so that you get a quick energy boost as the glucose is used by your body. You'll get the same energy boost from coffee, but how much of a boost depends on how strong the coffee is.

No, actually I think it's the opposite - your pulse quickens and bloog circulation increases.

Really? I thought it speeds up metabolism. I usually feel hungry faster after drinking coffee. Hmm.. that is something worth finding out more about, I guess. Have a great Christmas. :-)

For me, if I eat too much, i would like to drink one cup of coffee, it helps for digestion, but it is not good for stomach, sometimes when I have some pain, especially the headache, the coffee really helps relieve the pain, but the big disadvantage for me is I have pimples if I drink too much coffee, so I have to control myself.
