Navels, also known as belly buttons - innies, outies, obesity

I started looking up this information because I noticed that somehow as I gained weight, my innie became outie. Where, since I started contemplating my navel as a child, it had a little bump in the middle with two tiny concentric folds around it, it is now a lump of flesh with a few lines below where the middle bump used to be.
It looks like a blister, no more than 1/2 inch across, about half the length vertically, and protrudes 1/4 inch. I still have an indentation below that, now that I'm looking at it, so it's an innie below and an outie above. Weird ...
Presently there is no pain or discomfort. It doesn't get bigger when I strain, so I don't think it is an umbilical hernia - the pictures I've seen on the net look more severe than what I have.
I just started the Medifast diet a few days ago. I will have to see if losing weight changes anything.
