hi, there was a restaurant near me before, that only made food without energy. It was raw food, but sometimes they used the sunshine to cook some sort of bread, cake. The tastes were very strong due to this non-baking technique. The name of the restuarant was "RAW"... i think there are more of these not sure.

A rice cooker can work as an electric pan, pressure cooker or oven. Materials are the same as usual, preparation for cake and bread are the same as usual. Just put them into the cooker, and push the cook button.

Does it have to be a special kind of rice cooker or does it work on all rice cookers? Thanks in advance.

If you have a crock pot or a foreman grill you can bake a cake in either one Crock pot (example recipe) http://www.recipegoldmine.com/crockpotcake/chocolate-chip-cake.html Foreman Grill (example recipe) http://www.mealsmatter.org/recipes-meals/recipe/15932

i can bake without an oven but not on a rice cooker. get a big big cooking pot. half full it with sand and put it on the stove when it is hot you can put inside anything you like to bake. but it takes more hour cooking than the usual baking. goodluck

I have heard about that before too but I think you need a slightly different recipe since water retains better in rice cooker as compared with over (I would assume). This is an interesting discussion. Hope someone would shed light in this area. Thanks for starting this.

yes. I've been thinking of that too, that's why I started this. Hope someone who tried this method before can share their experience here. Thank you for you response anyway.

Hi, jean0827. I have never heard of a rice cooker. But, I thought that a rice cooker is only for boiling and cooking rice. I would think that you would have to have a high altitude to bake a cake. I don't think that it is possible to bake a cake without an oven or a microwave.

Jean, You CAN bake a cake in a typical on/off style rice cooker. Grease the cooker with butter/shortening/or oil. Put a circle of greased parchment paper in the bottom. Now you can make an upside-down cake by putting your butter, brown sugar, nuts, etc. in. Then you can use a Jiffy cake mix, or you can use 1/2 of a regular box cake mix (I used Duncan Hines yellow cake mix, and 1/2 of the oil, eggs, and water usually required.) Pour the batter into your rice cooker. Spread it evenly. Then cover with your lid. Bake 40 minutes. Lift lid, being careful not to drop water on your cake. Invert a small plate into the cooking well. Tip the well and plate and your cake will come out onto the cake. Remove the parchment paper. Let cool a bit before serving. If you don't want to make an upside down cake, you can just do the greasing with the parchment, and use the 1/2 cake mix or whole Jiffy cake mix idea. Works the same. rice cake with a rice cooker steamer is possible. my mom is really good at it but i don't know the details. i've seen no-bake cakes on tv before but haven't tried one yet. may you find cake recipes but the quicker way is to search from the internet. press the keys and good luck!
