Did you ever have an examination on new year's day? I think in Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU,Karnataka, India) its tradition to make student's life horrible. My seniors wrote exams on the 31st evening!. Is it only me? or do you also think there is something hugely wrong in the education system.

hi friend .. i too shared misery in the form of exams or special classes on 31st ... our education system is indeed ... more keen on memory then thought or application ... it really is worrying to see the coming generations amidst the vast competition are subjected to more hardships and pressure both by aspiring parents and results hungry institutions ... i come from tamil nadu(India) and believe me the state board syllabus really sucks ... although they copied the syllabus from cbse(in the name of improving) the mode of examinations require students to just memorize the answers and write it word by word .... and bingo .. you get brilliant marks ... ( sad thing is problems from math come straight out of the text) ... this is a really sad situation .. and is a real brain damper

I do not think that there is anything wrong with the education system just because the examination is being held on New Year's day. What is wrong with that? If that particular college is not keeping a holiday, then what is wrong if they are holding examination on that day? There are many other festivals which we can enjoy during the year. If we have to skip one of them we should not blame the whole system.

Ah! My first response! thanks for replying!. Well my comment on the education system is not based on this instance only, i am sorry that it seems that way. I feel the education system today is like a factory!, a production line!.....here is the new batch, new and improved! :). Education must never be related to school or college, unfortunately it has been. The greatest thinkers never supported schooling, even Einstein!. And BTW its not 'a' college, its a whole university which has over 100 colleges under it. Anyways i am new to mylot and wanted to get many responses, and thought many will respond to this topic. Think i am starting to realize how this works.

IITD always gives holidays during the winters so I have never had an exam, yet. Lets see how it is in the future. But even if there is an exam, you can celebrate belated new year with your friends later! SO chill
