Flat earth!

Somebody said earth is spherical. Some claims that they have proved so. And men took it for granted! Ever even got a feeling of earth being not flat at least in dreams? Or in imaginations? Photographs from space say a lot about it making us believe that earth is spherical. May be because we have trust in SCIENCE we would tend to believe it. Certain facts, simply accepted, needs no justification in our own thoughts?

They didn't have space photographies back in 17th, 18th century, but they knew that the Earth is not flat. The main fact that proves this, is that the ships can circle the earth. If it was flat, than how could they return to the same place? The space traveling and photographies just showed what we already knew.

What if they made the circle on the flat surface rather than going over the edge. Can you tell the different since both would end up at the starting point again, right? I know space photography has proven it but to convince people that the Earth was not flat during the olden days must be a huge challenge.

Well if they made the circle, than they would know they were making circles. We are saying about going only in one straight direction, straight forward. Let not underestimate the logic and the human inteligence.

earth as seen from appolo - Earth our place of living
Hi rajesh,Some people are profoundly disturbed by the fact that reason alone can't generate truths. When the use of mathematics and logic in science is explained to them they respond, "If mathematics and logic can't produce absolute truths, then they produce only untruths or partial truths, and are therefore worthless."The fact that science claims no absolute truths is seized upon by people who hold strong religious beliefs and who dislike those conclusions of science that run counter to their emotional convictions. To them, if a thing is not absolutely and finally true, it is false. Logical deduction, including mathematical logic, is the language with which we frame our theories of physics. Mathematics is capable of far greater power and precision than mere words. In fact, it is the language in which may physicists do their creative thinking. It is also the tool we use to test our theories against the final (and unforgiving) arbiter of experiment and measurement.
