I was trying to download a Christmas screensaver, and unfortunately it had a lot of virus in it. It was this free screensaver that always pops up when you are viewing greetings sites. I usually ignore such free stuff, which is forced on me; but, this time, I just thought I would give it a shot and downloaded it. It had a lot of unwanted viruses. Luckily, I was well protected by Avira. Had any narrow scrapes like this?

Good that you were able to get rid of this with the help of your Avira AntiVir. We need to avoid those free stuffs on the internet, particularly screen saver, wallpaper, etc. Mostly, they contained a malicious malware called adware and spyware. When this malware was installed in your computer, then it would be so very annoying and would make your computer useless at all to use. I have a friend who recently had problems regarding about spyware. She downloaded a free antivirus and the sad thing about it, the software is not a legitimate antivirus but rather a spyware. Luckily, I gave her some advices and she was able to get rid of those. I suggest that you used Mozilla or Opera as your main browsers when surfing the net. :-)

Right now, I use IE. What are the advantages of using Mozilla? I do have Mozilla in my system, but somehow, got used to IE.

One of the advantages of using Mozilla is that it blocks the entrance of suspicious malwares (adware, spyware, trojan, and virus) that used to install without your prior notice. I have been using Mozilla and Opera for almost two years and since using it, I have never had experienced any problems at all. I rarely used IE. I still used it because there are some websites, which basically cannot be opened by Mozilla or Opera, so I used it on as-needed basis only. :-)
