Recently, Bux.to had a Christmas challenge. The prize was 100ref package. The challenge was to solve a Nonogram. I am a puzzle freak. I love and enjoy solving puzzle. Even though I did not know anything about Nonogram prior to the challenge, I decided to read up and try to solve it. I am very happy that I solve the puzzle even though I did not get pick for the prize. =D I love the satisfaction of solving a puzzle. (take a look at my solution; pardon me for my untidiness) The Japanese people are great inventors of such puzzles. I love to play Sudoku, Kakuro and Nonogram. Do you enjoy number puzzles as much as I do? What's your favorite? Any new puzzles to recommend me?=)

Yea. I tried all sorts of sudoku too. LOL Kind of sick of it now. Since you like suduko, I think you will like Kakuro. It's quite similar. =) You should try.

It's like a crossword puzzle. No words, only numbers. It's quite challenging initially. After a while, it also becomes boring like sudoku for me. =P

Yeah... I was trying my hands on them, but failed miserably. Now that I missed the deadline, I still cannot figure out logically how to solve the puzzle. What did you do to solve the puzzle? What methods did you use to do it? Can you sort of list it out step by step to teach this old man?

Strategy for playing nonogram - Strategy - Playing nonogram
It's one strategy that brought me to the solution. You really need to focus when you try this puzzle. One mistake can cause the whole thing to be wrong. I made 2 errors and I had to redo the puzzle twice. I only got it right the 3rd attempt. I use X (shaded) and 0 to mark my boxes. The digit denotes the number of X in that row or column. For example, if there's only one number 23, it means there are 23 X in that row. If there's three numbers 5, 6 and 7, this means that there are a series of 5 X, 6 X and 7 X in that row. The problem is you don't know how many gaps (denoted using 0) are there between the 5 X, 6 X and 7 X. Also, you don't know where the 5 X will start from. This is the challenge of the game. The puzzle given by Bux.to has 30 rows and 30 columns. There's this column with 23 X. Given that there's 30 boxes in that column, I can safely say that the middle 16 boxes are all X. I do not really know how to explain it in words. Do look at the picture for explanation.=) From there, I try to use the same strategy to solve the rest of the puzzle. You cannot guess in this game. There are too many numbers involved. One wrong guess or mistake can cause the whole thing to be wrong and it's not easy to back track to see where the error is. Try it when you are free.=)

I did try the method you mentioned and it got me no where. I guess I have to try harder to figure out how to get the logic behind it. I did however found a site that wrote a software to render the picture in the puzzle. I am still trying to figure out how this programmer is able to handle the logic to solve the puzzle. Thanks for the input though. Will try again with a new puzzle that I find on the web. ;P

I do that once when I was very bored. You see, then the craze had been on for quite some time. I was wondering what the fuss was all about. So I did some research and played a while. I only downloaded the game to my phone and that's about it. I am okay with that, just okay. I don't like them that much.

I must admit I'd never heard of Nonogram before so I'll have to try that one. I love Sudoku and I think I love Kakuro - is that the one that uses letters? Is Nonogram something like Cross Sums? I love any of those math and number puzzles as well as logic puzzles. I tend to go in spurts; right now I'm hooked on the Sudoku but for a long time it was logic puzzles. I think I'm in the mood to do some of them again! Annie

Kakuro is something like Cross sums - a cross-number puzzle. I think you'll enjoy it. =D As for Nonogram, it's called "paint by numbers" too. You can check out more details here. http://www.nonogram.net/ Enjoy your games. =D
