I have been to Spain and Mexico, and spent a few hours in some islands on a cruise. I REALLY want to go to Greece. If you've been, add your favorite places and what is absolutely necessary to see while you're there!

I live in Greece. And I have to tell you that everything the above member wrote is quiet true. As for the best season to come, I would say mid-June until early July. The prices for accomodation are not as high as in the mid-July - mid-September season, plus the weather is a lot better than earlier, making the beach the place to be. Don't just spend a few hours this time on the islands, go straight for them! Beautiful beaches, good food, lots of sun (too much sun if I may say, allways use sunblock and a cap)! I would say that fine destinations are (the list is far from complete, i's just my personal preference): Milos Santorini Skiathos Sifnos If you are the party type, Myconos is a must!If you want to tour a bit try Crete or Rhodes. Greece's biggest islands (especially Crete). You will find the whole package there and if you want to be in a new place everyday you will love them. If you just want to stay to one place, go to the same beaches and not move around a lot, prefer one of the smaller islands I recommended you above. Use a travel agency! Foreign travel agents get huge discounts from local accomodators due to mass booking. Just make sure part of that discount passes on to you. Use the Internet. You will find many hotels, travel agencies and transport schedules online. Thus you can easily compare prices or find the best route to come. Don't forget to eat: Souvlaki Musaka Tzatziki Those are panhellenic standards. Try also the local specialties. Best way to successful eating? Ask a greek couple of tourists, already having a vacation there, which places they prefer. When you get there, ask again a greek couple to help you with the order! Don' be afraid to do that, we are very friendly persons, just make sure you re talking to a greek tourist (not local) and not some other foreign tourist. Be careful of economic emigrants. For the past 15 years Greece is plagued by a rising number of economic (even illegal) emigrants. Albanians mostly, Russians, Ukraines, etc. Stay away from them. Some times they even pass as greeks, so be really careful.
