I got two sets of watercolors for Christmas this year and I'm really excited about using them. The only problem is that I have never used watercolors before and I've heard that it can be a pain in the butt. Can any of you give me some suggestions and/or advice about painting with watercolors?

When you paint with watercolor, do it in layers, wait for each to dry before using another shade or color, or else everything will get mixed together and blurr.

I've worked with watercolor and you're right, they're a pain in the butt if you would use it to paint very accurate detailed works. Something like that would be next to impossible with watercolor. My advice would be to relax and paint every brush stroke as accurately as you can because in watercolor, there is just no room for error. Repainting a surface would create a mess. Don't be too hard on yourself, watercolor paintings should have that accidental look where the picture looks as if the colors are spilled there accidentally and dried like that. Good Luck!
