Enough Is Enough ?!

I'm just wondering? During our school days, our teachers in Religion subject taught us the if we do good during the course of our life, when we've passed away our soul will go to heaven. My question is this, how much good do we need to do during our life, and what if we fall down and sinned? Does that mean that we get a "deduction" from the goodness we did? So what is enough to be considered enough to go to heaven? Please share your thoughts.

Heaven & Hell are in your back pocket. Live your life as honestly, and with as little harm as you can and you are in Heaven. Make a mistake, make amends and move on, and you are still in Heaven. Make a mistake, conceal it and hope no one will notice and welcome to Hell. It is ALWAYS your choice.

Yeah you're probably got a point here. Maybe the expression "Feels like heaven" or "living in hell" would better explain what you're saying. Is this correct? BTW, thanks for your reply.

I would have to first comment about your teachers in Religion - teaching you that if we do good, etc., our soul will go to heaven. What I have learned is - while doing good is a positive thing, something we should all strive for, doing good isn't a prerequisit for going to heaven. There will never be a scale that can show us what is enough to go to heaven. There is only one way we can know we are going to heaven. Doing good or not isn't a part of that (although it is a very positive character trait to have). The Scriptures say 'there is none good ... no, not one'. That alone would say doing good or being good isn't in question. It also says we will be judged for the things we do, but it doesn't say doing good will get us into heaven. Each belief has its own understanding of what gets a person into heaven. You should find your belief first and foremost.

Well many well known people have done their share in doing good and yes if compared to others would have done only a small part. But doing good does have its positive affect towards others. To mentioned a few are Mahatmha Gandhi, Sister Theresa, Pope John Paul II, and others more. They are persons known for doing good and so are engraved to most people across the earth. But there are also many who would think differefntly of them. Same goes to bad/evil persons like Hitler, but to other countries like in Germany, many see him as done good to them, but to most of us his a bad person. So then we couldn't compare Gandhi to Hitler as between good and bad, since not every bodyand everyone could say without question that both of them have done only good and only evil.

In my religon that I was raised in says there is 3 stages of heaven and the ones who dont do to goo dhere goes to the lowest one the ones that are perfect goes to the top wel I hope I dont get to the top for I will be alone and I want to be with my loved ones

I'm not a very religous person, meaning that I don't go to church every sunday or preach to my neighbors about the bible. I just simply believe. But I know I was taught one thing when I was younger and going to sunday school. That is forgiveness, if you know you have sinned and asked for forgiveness you are forgiven. Plan and simple.

Kia ora, i reckon it doesnt matter about the deeds (good or bad) that youve done in life what really matters is "do you have faith? do you believe in gods word? do you belive that he'll keep his promise and send back his son jesus to save us soon? if you believe and have faith in action which means dont be afraid of the world or people in it only FEAR GOD the creator of ALL things. Kia Ora. peace.

Depends on your religion. Most religions feel that if you are truly sorry for any bad that you have done and repent all of your sins, you will go to heaven. What do you feel is the right answer?

If you were baptized into Christ and therefore already a Christian, you ought to do good until you die and of course as a human being you commit sin but for Christians there are ways for their sins to be forgiven and that's the big difference between a Christian and those who are not. The sins of those who are not Christians are not forgiven and there's no way for them to be forgiven for forgiveness of sins are only for Christians who are in effect children of God in Christ.

Theres a big difference between Church and God. the Church is man-made and the priests tell you what they are told to say. I gave up organised Religion 40 years ago because I couldn't believe it any more, Sure God exists and He's looking after everyone. He will never send anyone to Hell so don't be worried. Why would God do that anyway?

Do you mean is life run on the demerit system like the service? I don't think so. In Judaism, if you sin against a person, you must go to that person and ask for fogiveness, because they must forgive you. If you commit a sin against G'd, then you must ask G'd for forgiveness. It is very important to do what is right in this world, but it is not like you were adding up brownie points. You do this because it is the right thing to do, not because if you say so many prayers you will get into heaven. I do not think that it works that way. I do not think that there is a set amount of things that you must do to get into heaven or a set amount of bad things that will send you to hell. In Judaism, good and honorable people are called Righteous Men or Women. They go through life doing there best. That does not mean that they always know and do the perfect thing but they always try to do so. There is no excuse to do the wrong thing on purpose. That soes not mean that you should go through life being stoical and miserable. No life should be fun and happy always. You should just do the right things. You can you know! Shalom!
