Ping your blog, search engine optimization and trading hard links are some of the more common method to increasing traffic. Do them well and you will have a continue flow of traffic everyday. The less talked about methods are things like link dumping, forum signature promotion, traffic exchange, bum marketing, etc. They are more powerful but takes a lot more time and patience to get right. PPC might not be the best way to monetize your blog. Try paid-to-post or affiliate marketing.

As mentioned above, I participate a bit in forums where I leave a link including mylot and have had visits. But it takes time. I also submit to blog and article directories, and have had a few views and have ask similar blogs for link exchange but am still waiting.
