Years ago I wrote this poem, thinking it was just another poem, of which I'd written many, but I've never forgotten it, and always find the truth of it. It is as follows: It seems to me, as time goes by I seldom ask the question "why", Instead, accepting as my lot, the question's answer, "well, why not". I still love this poem, and I still love writing them. I was in my very early twenties when I wrote it, and I never would have thought that anything I wrote then would have any relevance now. Will wonders never cease? I think I should write a new one on the same theme from a much older and possibly wiser perspective. How about you? Anything you've written that you would like to revisit? If so, what is the subject, and is it worthy of revisitation?

A poem about conforming. Interesting. It'd be even more interesting if there was a resolution (whether or not you liked conforming). And you should keep writing. Poetry is a form of the soul. Heck, you could even earn money from it.

You're right - there's no reason to think that this poem is about anything other than conforming (although it's not) and there definitely needs to be some resolution here. What great inspiration to re-write! And rethink. As I said, I wrote this so many years ago, and at the time I thought it was quite good and clever - I'm going to attribute that opinion to the shortsightedness of my youth. After I posted that last night, I started thinking about another favorite poem I wrote quite a few years ago, and I'm working on re-writing and fleshing it out. And I have to say, I'm so excited about it! I really liked it at the time, but knew that there was something not right about it. Now I think I've figured out what that is and I've added another stanza to it so far. I feel like I've been given a gift - a new awakening to an old love that I haven't visited in a very long time. You're right again - I should keep writing, and at this point, I don't think I could stop. So, thanks so much for responding to my post, reading my poem, and opening my eyes. Till we meet again....

I was once told that Maya Angelou (a famous poet) once wrote a poem and thought it was horrible because she "didn't have enough time". She was given about 2 months in advance. Thus showing that many poems need constant editing to truly reach their potential. Because the more you look over, the more you think about how to make the poem better ^^. It's always good to look at old poems either to edit them..or to make complete new ones on the same topic.

Thanks. Once again you give me wisdom. If I get anywhere with this poem I'm trying to work with, I'd like to get your feedback. With your permission, of course. I have a feeling we're like night and day in a lot of ways, but for whatever reason, I'd kind of like to get your opinions.

You have a wonderful poem, Nova...short and yet thought-provoking. I too have rediscovered my love of writing through a wonderful online writing community I joined. It provides great support and inspiration, with my works getting critiqued, and I can also join forums, classes and contests. I hope others will be interested to join too, let me know.

Thank you so much for your kind words. Since posting the first poem here, the response I've received has simply knocked me out. Even as we speak, I am fleshing out another old favorite of mine - all I need is to complete the last line! The inspiration I've gotten here is incomparable. I would love to see your poem. And bravo to you for your effort. Writing is such a cathartic thing to do. I always encourage it. Please do send your poem to me, I can't wait to see it. I hope you will also keep up the great work.
