Benzair Bhutto is Dead! Was it because she was a Woman?

Benzair Bhutto the ex prime minister of Pakistan was assassinated today from a suicide bomber- (big surprise). She was a presidential candidate and was exiled until she returned on October 18th. Suicide bombers showed up and bombed her homecoming parade as well. In your opinion do you admire her persistance or do you think she should have given up and left? Did they kill her because she was a woman or just smarter than the existing president? I'm chicken so while I admire her persistance I would have gotten out of dodge after the bombing at the homecoming parade. What is wrong with the middle east that they hate so much- why can't they get a grip? Ok there are a few questions here so answer what you want! Thanks for reading.

Her health and education programs, as well as her insistence on more rights for women, did make her quite a bit of a target. Basically the fact that she stood up for the underprivileged seems to have been a major problem for a lot of the other politicians and such. *sighs* I won't claim to be an expert in the politics of Pakistan, but I do admire her quite a bit. And like you said, her persistence was indeed phenomenal.

I'm not really up on their politics either- just seems so messed up. Great answer my friend. Even though at times America may not be the best- it beats that.

I don't think it was only because she was a woman. She was the president of the country twice before. But I guess she was killed because she was a clear winner. She's always fought for democracy in the country. In fact, her father was hanged by a dictator of the country. Benazir Bhutto would have tried to solve the major problems the country was facing and apparently some people didn't want that. If she did become the president again, it would have worked out well for other countries besides Pakistan and so there were a few people who wanted her out of the way. I admire Benazir Bhutto's guts and I have to say I wouldn't have gone back especially when there were threats on my life and I knew the government wasn't going to do anything for my security. And that's why I'm no leader and she was!

Great answer! Very informative and I definitely agree with you. I guess her son is taking over, which is crazy but he's going to carry his mom's tradition. Very noble and dangerous. Thanks for your response

Thanks for the BR! Just as Benazir Bhutto's dad groomed her to lead the People's party, she had groomed her children to be the leaders of tomorrow. Her kids always knew what they had to do in life(or for the country rather). In her will, Benazir Bhutto had chosen her husband to take her place as the leader of the party, but he declined and suggested his son (who would anyway have been a party member and later probably have led the party)
