Do you get a live tree for Christmas?

Do you ever feel guilty about killing a tree for two weeks pleasure? Do you break your tree down for kindling afterwards?

I have a neighbor of mine that gives me a lecture about killing trees for Christmas every year..yet every year I still get one, a real tree that is. Most trees that are cut down for Christmas are from "farms" and every time they cut down a tree, they plant one. My weird rationale is this...they cut (kill) so many trees for Christmas anyway.. So many trees that are cut down for sale aren't even bought...now that IS a waste. So my rationale is that when I get a tree, I'm saving it in a way, and giving it a home where it will be loved and cherished...and I usually keep it a minimum of a month! This tree I have is my "love" tree, as some MyLot conspirators got together to get me my tree...I know the identity of the "gang" leader..LOL..but not the others.. they got me this tree since it really looked like this would be the first year EVER without one. I got it three Fridays ago, and do you know it's still as fresh as the day I got it? At this rate, I might be able to keep it until the end of January or February..LOL

I'm glad they recycle them as mulch - they're a rich source of compost. There are other ways to be kind to the enviroment at Christmas. We could get a 'live tree' (so we don't have to wait for the new ones to grow) we can use recycled paper for our gifts. Recylcle all the present paper of course, eat Christmas dinner by candlelight...and of course try to buy locally as much as possible - produce and meat. I'm sure you know all of these. Enjoy your tree - when do you take it down (I've been dreaming our house is fully decorated with a big tree! Next year - the works!)

Ask her if she recycles paper and bottles and such. If she saves her food for composting if she washes her clothes in a washer and uses a dishwasher. There are other ways of depleting resoruces and not being conscious. Your tree is recycled, producing rich compost for more trees. How you effect the environment, is your business. No one should lecture you.

Yes I do because its just not the same having an artificial tree in the house. The pine smell isn't there and the feel just isnt the same (plus the cats just love it!)

I wish we had plantable trees. Smaller younger trees in a pot, that we can plant after Christmas. They are a few dollars too as compared to upwards of fifty bucks for a tree! In essence, we'd be buying 'live trees'. Personally, I love the smell and tradition too. Of course many nurseries are good at planting a lot of seeding to replace the ones chopped down. And they do bio degrade and become rich compost which is a great thing.

I got a fake tree. I have had it for a few years now. I do feel bad that so many tree's are cut down each year, just to satisfy our silly need to have the smell of a tree inside. . A fake tree and a wreath would dothe same thing :) Less mess as well in the end.

I have a fake Christmas tree because I am allergic to live ones. But in my home town they recycle Christmas trees by dumping them in the local lake which provides habitat for the fish population.

I have never had a real Christmas tree, and probably would be miserable if I got one. My mother has very sensitive sinuses, and cannot be around a live tree. I have a lot of the same allergies she does, so its very likely that if I tried to get a live tree I would spend Christmas sneezing, snotted-up, and miserable lol.
