Fred Thompson: If you want real leadership, he's the man!

The press all but ignores Fred Thompson, but that is ok. He and his bus tour are working Iowa as we speak, and gaining support leading up to the caucuses. Since I'm one of his supporters, I thought I'd do my part by helping spread his message to those of you who choose to read it. National Security: Plain and simple, with no "flip flopping". No more weak willed "we will find them and make them pay". Federal Budget/Spending: Open the books, Develop comprehensive solutions, make the hard choices to cut wasteful spending. A market based approach, not a bunch of bail outs and prop ups that do nothing but put the problem off to be handled by future generations. Tax Reform: Tax reform based on growth, not social engineering; a new tax code that makes sense; Dissolution of the IRS as we know it. We all know that the tax system in the US is an overbloated bureacracy that makes doing its job impossible. Even the people working at the IRS "help" lines don't know the answers most the time. Healthcare: Realign programs to provide more choices based on individual needs, not "one size fits all" rhetoric; Promote prevention, chronic care management and personal responsibility; Encourage innovation and medical technology; increase competition and consumer choice, while streamlining regulation based on free market solutions and cost reduction; Promote research and life sciences innovation. In other words, keep the government from setting up shop as a national clinic. Immigration: Secure the borders, enforce existing immigration laws, discourage "sanctuary cities", Welcome legal immigration and encourage assimilation into our communities. Fred Thompson covers both sides of the immigration problem; the toothless illegal immigration policies and the rediculously overbearing legal immigration policies. Both need to be addressed by the president. Appointing Judges: Strict Constructionist Judges. Does anything else need to be said here? 2nd Amendment: Strictly enforce current laws; severely punish violent criminals; Protect gun rights of law abiding citizens. He's not the perfect candidate or the most polished, but I back Fred Thompson because he doesn't back down from what he believes, nor does he ignore hard decisions. He doesn't change his tune to fit the audience he's speaking to. He is a leader at a time we need it the most.

I'm so sorry, Ted, but I must disagree on this one. Thompson has little Senate experience and is a member of the Council of Foreign Relations. Whatever the UN wants is what Thompson will do. Don't let his acting abilities fool you. The man is a great actor. I love his movies.

Fair enough, but Ron Paul still bugs me with his "blame America First" attitude.

I think what bugs you is that he's right. All of us are to blame for allowing things to get out of hand. We don't know our history, because if we did, things would not be this out of hand. The responsibility of the people to be involved with what is going on in our government was shirked many years ago, largely due to inflation & serious manipulation tactics, in my humble opinion. Nevertheless, we have become distracted and like leaving the responsibility on elected officials. Guess what? If we had been paying attention, and pitching a collective fit about the last two stolen elections, I doubt we would have been attacked or even went to war. Besides, no one is ever going to agree with every single thing any politician says ever. Dr. Paul has been hangin' around Congress for 20+ years. He knows way more than the average joe ever will about what really goes on in Washington. The difference between Dr. Paul and the rest is this: he is not bought and paid for.

It doesn't bother me that he's right, and I do agree with him on a lot of things.. but when he says that terrorist attacks against us are our fault, I draw the line.

At least he has the ability to speak articulately without having to depend on some flowery speech somebody else wrote for him. What you see is what you get...rough around the edges, but very American in a refreshing way. There is no ideal candidate this time around in my view, but Fred is certainly the lesser of the evils.

Lesser of evils? Or better of the flawed? You are right, what you see is what you get, and that's what we need in Washington.

"What you see is what you get" if you ignore the fact that he lands in his luxury jetliner and is then driven to his pick-up truck, which he drives to where his supporters await him. I also have a bit of a problem with him saying his "trophy wife" is his most prized possession. Annie

Everyone in that line of work rides in a luxury jetliner. Does that make them good? No. Does it make them bad? I don't know. But I'll take a Spencer Tracy kind of guy over Pee-wee Herman any day of the week and I for one would hate to see the Commander-in-Chief of our forces riding to work on a bicycle. I will rephrase my "lesser of the two evils remark" to "BETTER of the flawed."

I'm not sure he's done any more, or even as much, to show leadership skills than most of the other candidates but I'll give you this - he certainly hasn't done the flip-flopping of the other GOP candidates, with the exception of Ron Paul. However, I heard it said on TV the other day that he's "done", not even in the mix anymore. Not that the pundits haven't been wrong before, but I think Thompson waited too long to officially enter the race, he missed his moment and I'm not sure he can recover. From what I've seen though, he's the less "scary" of the top GOP contenders! Annie

At this point the press has made their picks of who they want to prop up. Fred Thompson has been speaking and working as actively as any of the others, the press has just chosen to ignore him. But history has shown that the media picks don't always (in fact they rarely) become President.
