Copy Cat Discussions...

United States

I don't start many discussions here on myLot, after all I don't have a lot to ask, or any good discussion ideas (at least not often). But today, I am working hard in the hopes of making my ten dollars this month and I thought I would ask the few things I can think to ask...I asked "How do you relax?" At the bottom of the page where it has similar discussions there are two others that asked this recently, both of which are my friends! I have no idea how I missed their conversations and I can't believe I am that bad! Anyway, it doesn't bother me when I come across similar discussions, especially when they have something to say. The one liners are a bit frustrating. Don't just ask me a question! Share your answer or insight! Anyway...How do you feel about copy cat discussions?

It doesn't bother me at all. As you mentioned above, an oversight can happen and does. I have issues certain days when I just can't think of good subject matter(s). When I think I have a goodie on my mind and post it, it does nothing. My opinion: myLot is hit or miss regarding new discussions.

I've done that before, by accident. I searched for the topic and found nothing, and then saw it listed in 'related discussions' below. I felt bad when it happened, but it was an honest mistake. It happens, don't worry about it. I hope you meet your goal, I'll try to help. I have about a dollar to go to meet payout, and I'm trying too. Just a few days to go. We'd better chug along.

I think the Mylot is all about quality, atleast this what the owners say. But I think it has been plagued by the people who want to earn anyway and the real worthful discussions are very few. This is not helping any cause except for sponsers and earners who are filling their pockets. Well those are my views I dont know how others think.

I've noticed this a lot when I start a discussion and when I check the date they were started most of the time it has been months before so I don't feel it's a problem. There was one time when someone was actually following me around starting the same discussions but once I alerted mylot to it it stopped immediately! lol....Sometimes there can be discussions about the same topic but what the writers have to say differ in a lot of ways. I also hate the one liners...they make me crazy since I take the time to think about (although I might ramble on at times) what I'm saying and feel everyone should do the same.

In the myLot guidelines, it was stated that we have to search first for existing topics before starting new discussions. However, there are some instances wherein the title of the topic is similar but the interpretation of the discussion is different. So, I think it would still be acceptable especially for those who are new comers in this myLot community. Moreover, as much as possible, we should always search for existing topics before posting a new discussion to avoid copy cat discussions. :-)

eerrmmm.. i thought that's against myLot's guidelines and similar discussions will be deleted by the admin? The rule of thumb is to search first for the dicussion that you want to start. Mylot is all about quality. =D

I am less likely to start a discussion if I have to search first. I don't know how many repeat discussions get deleted, I see all kinds of them all the time. Then there is the question of whether or not you want to reply to an old discussion. After all there are a lot of people who started conversations and are long gone never to reply.

Hi this is bound to happen it either happens because someone phrased things differently and asked the question in a different way or with their interpretation on it or it happens by mistake like you mentioned. There are so many people here it is bound to happen and I am sure the Mylot staff are aware mistakes happen. Sometimes we rephrase things differently or have different insights to share. I try never to give one word answers and sometimes I find it easier to look at similar discussions to change my answer a little and to post different posts is quicker, but I never ever give the same answer because to me that would be cheating even though it was my original answer. Hope that makes sense. I don't know whether anyone really means to copycat, but yesterday there were many posts about Benazir Bhutto because that was of upmost importance to everyone on here so that was asked a lot. I don't think your friends would mind they will understand. So when I answer posts I will look for similar topics because I am writing about a certain topic at the time and can give a better answer when I am in that frame of mind. Does this make sense? I hope so, lol!

Well I don't get bothered by it, since I believe that it has different content. They can be the same at title, but I know that they have different topics or subjects that are more or less good ideas to discuss at. Since discussing has lots of points to ponder at, I just hope that those whom I have missed (with the same title as my post) would simply understand me!;) As long as there's no violations, like copy-pasting or plagiarizing, I welcome it!;)

IN such a big place with so many discussions being posted it's easy to miss thing and I really don't get upset by similar discussions. I probably copy "catted" a few myself without knowing. As for the one liners I"m with you, but sometimes it's an effort from someone that is not completely confident about their English, and in those cases I do tend to respond.

There are many discussion here with the same content or with the same meaning but in different format. That's why I love to answer a new discussion who is best from my interest. I love also to reply a discussion with a sense that make me a good person or I think that discussion is maybe can I used it in a near future. Just look and dig it and you have found a lot of topic with a same content but in a different format.

In a community such as myLot with a population of over 116,000 similar discussions - even to the point of being almost identical - can hardly be avoided. Also, since there are so many members it's likely these posts will be viewed and responded to by an entirely different group of people so to them there is no "copy catting" going on. The only time it would bother me is if the post were copied word for word, or close to it, and if it were obvious it had been done deliberately. We all often have different takes on the same subjects and tend to get responses from different people, so the discussions really aren't the same at all. I've found the same thing when I've taken the time to do a search and nothing came up but but only after I'd posted the discussion there would be "similar discussions" that were pretty close. That's not a big deal at all to me. Another thing I've found, and it's something I've done myself and had "done to me" is someone starts a discussion on a certain topic, often something that's a big story of the day or whatever and then others will start discussions on the same topic but on something different about it. I've gotten an idea for a discussion from my friends quite often, in fact, and I usually mention that fact when I start my own post and I've had friends take a post I've made to a new level, so to speak. Gee, does that make any sense? For instance right now there are a bunch of posts about the assassination of former Pakistani PM Benazir Bhutto, but there are so many points to be discussed on this matter so they're not copies at all. I'm with you 100% on the one-liners. Some people think they're going to make some easy money just by typing a few words and being done with it. That's not a discussion in my opinion. Annie

Sometimes its just harder to find or know what discussions are out there. The search feature isn't the best. The tagging feature only holds five tags (when about double that should be the limit). There are email notifications and tons of discussions to comb through too. Its hard to not have a discussion about the same subject pop up a couple of times. I don't mind it really, especially if there is something to differentiate it (opinions, thoughts, resources). Consider that.

I think we cant avoid them, most questions have been answered and posted in discussions long ago. We cannot search and find if any single question has been made time ago i guess. On the other hand, i dont like the silly discussions i see every time, just to make it be interesting and fresh...

it has been a problem before and still was today here in mylot.to make a lot of earning a lot of members before uses that trick to make more discussions without using their minds.those people are the lazy one's who wanted to make money out of somebody's sweat.that's is also the reason why Mylot has made some modifications to avoid it.the reason why earning in mylot these days has become harder than before.
