Four hours without my DSL! The HORROR!

I was right in the middle of surfing my favorite sites when all of a sudden, the dreaded "Can't find server" error came up, and the little broadband light on the 2Wire portal was red. Hubby ended up on the phone for over an hour with technicians trying to figure everything out. They kept telling him that there was either something wrong with the 2Wire or the filter on the phone line. Then they quickly changed their tune when someone else down the street from us called in saying their DSL was down too (the technician on the phone told this to hubby). I wanted to get on that phone and tell them "HAH!" I KNEW it wasn't anything having to do with our lines. I had such withdrawals the whole time. I think if it went down for a really long period of time, like some of you have had to deal with, I would go CRAZY! ROFL! Thanks all for letting me get all that out. I'm back and I feel much better now. Hugs!

Believe me, I was getting VERY grouchy during that whole time. And since I made hubby deal with the DSL techs, he couldn't run and hide from me and my grumpfest either. Hahahaha! Love you too hon. Happy New Year to you sweetie.

Hello! Hahaha, things like that always happens. Errors happen, and the companies improve with those. Before, it always happened here at home, we had to call technicians all the time, and they'd even come here to solve it. Now there are no more problems, except that some weeks ago it was really slow. I'm glad you're back. Respectfully.

Thanks hon. This is the first time in five years that we have had to call for help. Usually the DSL doesn't go down around here. I'm just glad that someone else in the neighborhood called in around the same time...otherwise hubby would have been on the phone for HOURS. LOL

Hi Katlady2, I know where you're coming from here. Right now, we're at my sister's for our annual Christmas vacation, and we've brought our 'somewhat malfunctioning' CPU and monitor with us. It's a toss up as to which is causing the trouble. My sister's going to look into it for us, as she's good at this, and if she can't figure it out, it'll have to go to 'our technician.' I hope we don't have to return home on January 4th without our computer. My daughter and I would be lost without it.:( I'm glad that yours is up and running again for you.:)

I hope your sister can get it fixed before you have to head home. I think you would have to hold a wake or something until you got it back if she couldn't fix it by then. LOL! Good luck with yours hon, and thanks for stopping in.

Four whole hours? I would require the padded room! Yes, they tell you its your fault all the time that they're scrambling to fix it...

I was getting very close to needing that padded room! Fortunately this time I could tell the techs "neener neener". LOL

I woke up from my nap yesterday to find my daughter here fixing our connections... she tried to email both of us and saw a problem. She's only 5 miles away, so we were fixed before we even knew anything was wrong! Talk about service!!LOL!

Hi,there! Sorry to hear that your internet was broken for a while. I could understand your feeling pretty well cause I've also had such experiences before. At that time,I couldn't do anything and all of our work has to be stopped. That was so annoying.Recently one of my foreign friends also came across this.He was very upset about that cause it took many days to recover completely.Luckily at last it worked fine.I hope the related companies could take some effective measures to prevent such things from happening.Good that you're back! Have a nice day and best regards^_^

Last winter during an ice storm, we lost power for 5 days. It was a major nightmare. Too cold to stay here and too cold for our animals. We packed things up and went to one of our daughter's houses to stay. She has a computer but I was having problems connecting to my server from her computer. Thought I was going to lose my mind. I've checked with our local cable company about DSL. Decided against it so we still have dial-up. Seems that when cable has an issue, the computer system won't work. Have heard many other people also complain about it so I decided not to change anything. Know how you feel about withdrawals. This is my big entertainment and enjoy being online but do spend way too much time on here. Happy New Year, carolbee

Yeah, I spend way too much time on here too...house is a disaster half the time because I'm too busy surfing. I looked into the DSL through the cable company, but too many people kept telling me about all of the problems they would have. Ours is through the phone company, and there are way less problems with it. In fact, the last time it went down was about five years ago, and it was only out for a few hours then too. You might want to check into that option. Maybe that might work for you. Happy New Year to you too hon.

Oh I miss my DSL. Where we live now we can't get it so we are stuck with dial up until we can afford HughesNet, which is internet by satellite. It is very expensive but I think once we can afford it it will be worth it because I will be able to get more things done online faster and make more money. Anyway I understand how frustrated you must have been. One time our phone was shut off and I was going nuts not being able to get online. I was definitely having terrible withdraws, lol. Glad things are up and running for you again and let's hope this doesn't happen again. :)

I would love to get HughesNet. That would be so awesome. But that won't happen until I can get back to work...and that's probably at least a year away because of the back pain. But I like my DSL for now. Thanks so much hon.

We have had that happen to us, only we have cable and once that happens, everyone gets on line to the cable company and no one can get through. We have two computers, but my husband was reading his audio books and the internet connection is always on, and I was myLotting, then I just could not get through. So I tried to get back to Yahoo on another tab, but could not. I tried another page that I knew the url of, but that did not work. Did the unplugging and plugging, but that did not work. It came on hours later and of course the red light was on for a minute or so. It happened twice, they said there was problems in Ontario, but we are in Manitoba, and I do not know how it could affect us. Now I have to make up for that time.

Yeah, I did all of that too thinking it was something wrong with the line. Fortunately it wasn't. I know several people that have cable, but they seem to have more problems with their internet connections than those of us with DSL. I'm working on my lost four hours, but I doubt I'll ever get caught up...I never do. LOL

Isn't it funny how they always blame first the equipment, then the customer before finally realizing that it's their service LOL My limit is 8 days...then it gets to be a not pretty sight. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

lol Only 4 hrs.? Try several months. Like when I couldn't afford a landline. I did end up visiting the local library more frequently but was only allowed on for an hour. Long enough to pay some bills, balance my checkbook, and go thru a few emails.

ICK! That would drive me crazier than I already am! LOL! Our library is so small that I would have to fight with all the teenagers that were already on the computer. I'm so glad I don't have to do that. Thanks hon. Hugs!

I do not go crazy because I would be so mad that I just shut off the computer. Perhaps that helps to "train" me to be less clinging and able to let go. I have learnt to live without the computer every night and the weekends, missing the opportunity to chat with friends at mylot. Not sure if it is a blessing afterall.

It's good that you're training yourself to not be so dependent on it. I've tried, but I think I'm a hopeless cause. LOL! Thanks so much hon.

I had that problem once before. It was the ethernet that went bad so we had to go buy a new one. I enjoy the internet. I enjoy chatting to friends online and meeting new friends and making new friends.

That's what I missed the most, even during that short time, was the time spent with my online friends. Just the thought of not being able to do that sends me into a tailspin. Hahaha

The power outage a couple weeks ago left me without internet for 4 days. My power was out for four days, but then I went to my parent's house. Well that same day their power went out as well. But there power was restored the next day. However, neither the internet or cable would work. I was more upset about not watching the news about the weather. My dad, who four years ago didn't know anything about the internet, was the one pacing until the internet was fixed.

Oh I feel your pain! On the 23rd we had a wind storm here and our cable went out, both internet and TV. I was on the phone with Cablevision so fast... and I HATE talking on the phone but this was an EMERGENCY! I was talking so fast it's amazing that the CS guy understood me. He hadn't gotten any calls from my area yet so he said it might be an isolated problem and that if it was we would have to wait FOUR DAYS for a repair person due to the Christmas holiday! I was literally in a panic! There was nothing else CS could do so I coerced my husband into calling as many neighbors as we could think of and those who had cable were offline too so I calmed down a little... maybe it was a general outage, in which case it would be fixed relatively quickly. I consoled myself with a couple of episodes of "House" on DVD until service was restored. The outage only lasted a little over two hours but during that time I kept thinking... what if it is FOUR DAYS? Can I survive? I am soooo webaddicted LOL!

You and me both hon. My thought was "how am I going to let my online friends know what is going on?" Talk about a panic attack! LOL
