I got a laptop for christmas that has windows vista on it. I have never used it, seems neat. I dont know much about it. If you are a veteran user, have you encountered any problems with it that you didnt encounter with XP?

Vista is nice. You will encounter the UAC, or User Account Control, and you may find it annoying because it asks you to confirm every time you try to install software or change settings that require 'Elevated' privelages even if you are an administrator. It can get annoying but if you've ever used linux, it's similar to sudo. Dont dissable it because it keeps malware that autoruns and installs on your computer from getting in without your knowing and you have to conciously allow it to run by hitting okay when the warning comes up. It was designed to make your computer more secure and it does. It stops some malware automaticaly from running and you need it to run internet explorer in protected mode.

I've been using Vista for almost a year and I love it. I don't miss XP. The only problem I'm having is with iTunes. Music downloads are fine, but video downloads skip when playing and cause errors that require a shut down. I've emailed iTunes about it but no fix has been found. I would be really upset and probably hate Vista if I didn't have another PC that is running XP and has not problems with iTunes video down loads. Other than that, I realy like the look and navigation tools with Vista. Good luck with your new laptop.

Lots of my friends used the Vista. According to them, the system is really good to look, but is hard to afford. The computer will be very slow after installed the Vista. Thus, I still use the XP.

Hi There. Well, our WINdows Vista is cool but sometimes eventhough you have a good specs for that computer, it will really eat up the memory and somewhat slows down but the design is good.

I know very little about computers and windows, but I know that my widows xp was quicker to load than this new vista. When I said to the man in the computer shop about it he told me that Vista was slower to load because it was a new operating system, and xp had been around a long time ,and they ha been able to iron out most of the problems with it.

Vista if good, just eats up a lot of resources, but if your pc can handle it, then you'll have a good time with it. Also there'sa very useful program calles vista manager, which can do a lot of performance tweaks on your system, you can speed up your login and shutdown time, you can even turn off the UAC or user account control, but I suggest you just leave it on.

I work at a computer store and most of our packages include Windows Vista in it and in fact we are introducing Vista to our clients, but i still prefer to use xp because im comfortable with xp...and i know that here in my country Vista is still not that widely used since vista has encountered problems with other components, its not Vista ready yet. I guess Vista will become popular if Microsoft can offer more support to it and its correct flaws.

Windows Vista is great and nice operating system in terms of good features specially in a graphics and I don't encounter any problem using Windows Vista. I am using right now Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2. Sometimes I used Windows Vista, but I am like a new beginner when I used it thats why I go back to Windows XP. I will tell you the truth, Windows Vista is a good Operating System, because they have a good configuration and a lot of features rather than Windows XP. I used Windows XP because it is a friendly user.

I'm experienced vista user... for me if your computer is fast enough, then vista will run smoothly, and its better than xp. But on slow computer 512Mb RAM and below, it will be so much trouble. My pc can support vista well and the aero effect also works like charm, but I quit using windows. Now I use openSUSE linux with Compiz Fusion enabled and its rather good than vista.
