Birthday party advice needed!

Help! My daughter's birthday party is scheduled for next Saturday. It was planned outside, so all the games and activities I had ready to go are for outside. Well, I just looked at the weather forcast for that day, and it is supposed to rain! Now what do I do? Obviously we are going to have to move the party indoors, and it will probably be to my house. Any ideas for indoor games/ activities that aren't going to cost a fortune. We have a pretty even number of boys and girls coming, and there are probably going to be a good 40 people total. Do 7 year olds play pin the tail on the donkey?

Sounds like you are getting a lot of the same game ideas that I was thinking of, but I would also suggest since your daughter is moving away, that perhaps you have her friends either sign an address book, or make a book that they can write some note to her. Maybe like weddings, you could put a couple of extra disposable cameras for different people to take pictures for a nice remembrance for her later. One other musical game like muscial chairs...you pass around a big cookie wrapped in plastic wrap. When the music stops, that person is out, but gets the cookie. Then you start again with another cookie. This way everyone gets a cookie and maybe the last person gets something extra or a bigger cookie.

I did have the same idea as you with the address book. I think the kids will enjoy writing interesting things to say good-bye, and my daughter will love looking at it to remember her friends. Thanks for reinforcing my idea and bringing it back to the front of my mind. I was thinking for awhile that doing that would be too sad. Probably only for Mommy, though! LOL

My husband and I have promised ourselves and our kids that this is the one and only time that we will be making a change like this. Originally when we bought the house we are in now we said we were going to stay here until the kids graduated high school. Unfortunately life gets in the way of our plans sometimes. I'm glad to hear that your daughter was treated royally in the new school. I hope the same for mine.

We moved when my daughter was 5 and it was worst on me. She adapted pretty well and was treated royally as the new kid at her new school in February. I hate to uproot kids too and only did it the one time. Good luck.

They would probably like it better if they could pin the mustache on mom or put the red nose on daddy. Take the idea of pin the tail on the donkey and update it. Also, hang bite sized donuts from string on the ceiling whomever eats the donut first wins. Play musical chairs or dance contest. Also, for prizes take small squares of paper and put a different number on them, fold them really small and stick each one inside a balloon then blow up balloons. Go to the dollar store and buy different small items that would interest 7 year old boys and girls. LIp gloss and hair things are usually sold in bulk. Instead of party bags, make up prize bags. When a person wins a game that allows them to pick a number from a hat that coincides with the numbers on the prizes and in the balloons. At the end of the party what ever number you pick out of hat tells you what order you will pick a balloon. If you get number one in the hat you pick a blown up balloon, with a number in it. WHen you pick the balloon, have them sit on it and pop it. The number inside tells them what numbered prize bag they get. If the number in the balloon is 7, give them the number 7 prize bag. Be sure to have the boys and girls numbered balloons in separate bags unless theyre not gender specific. It really is fun. They get to pop something, they get a surprise and they are using their numbers. Hope this helps.

All GREAT ideas! I like the pin the red nose on the Daddy. My daughter and I can work on drawing that up this week. I think I'll take your suggestion on the prize bags, too!

lol i have no idea what 7 year olds do! but maybe instead of your house, your could take them all to say a cheap version of chuckycheeses or soomething, that way its not your house getting beaten up! lol. Here they have some indoor gaming rooms that you can rent where they offer pizza and drinks and the kids get to play on the equipment and eat for a flat rate if you know how many kids you are going to have.

Sissy, I would do that if I could, but the indoor places are expensive. Since we had planned the party outside we invited my daughter's whole class. As they RSVP we have been telling the families that they are welcome to stay, as well. Since it was outside and not costing anything we figured the $100 we spent on food would be fine. Argh... now I'm stuck. I can't uninvite all the families so I have to make this work at my house. Maybe I'll get lucky and it won't rain, afterall.

First of all, don't worry too much yet, the forecast always changes, and since it is still a week away, it may be fine. You could also consider getting a tent to put up for shelter. If you want to or have to move the party inside, there are lots of options. You could do pin the tail on the donkey, or any variation of that. There's musical chairs, and you could do it with squares or circles of paper taped to the floor for more space. There's the Freeze, where you pause the music and everyone has to freeze in whatever position until the music starts again. Charades can be fun, with simple things to act out such as animals. A game I played when I was a child was 7Up, where everyone closed their eyes and put their thumb up and a few people go around and push down thumbs, then if your thumb was pushed down, you get up and do the pushing for the next round. I forget the details, but look it up and you may find it. There's Simon Says, the limbo. They don't all have to be competitive games, you could just do them for a fun activity.

All very cool ideas. Thank you! I was thinking about the Musical Chairs using squares of paper on the floor. I'm glad you suggested that. Now I think it may work! LOL You are right that the weather forcast changes quite a bit in 7 days!
