The First Step in Recovery is admitting...I'm an Internet JUNKIE!

I just responded to another post saying that I am on the internet an average of 12 hours a day. When I thought about it, that freaked me out! I obviously don't have a life. But, I didn't differentiate between week days and weekends. When I'm at work, it's part of my job to be on the internet, so I can justify 8.5 hours a day. But, spending the other 3.5 hours of my leisure time on the internet seems excessive, doesn't it? Obviously I don't have kids, and I'm not married. So, I don't have to worry about them. Oh, wait...I don't have kids, and I'm not married. WHAAH!!! WHAAH! The internet is sucking the life out of me. Someone call a WHAAH-bulance! I need a 12 step program. I need to go into detox. I need...I need...I need A LIFE!

The Internet is everywhere these days. I didn't get on-line with it until 2000 and in those days I used dial up. Then in 2005 I moved to a area where broadband was available so in 2006 I got this. This year I bought a laptop! It must be hard for anyone to imagine that in the past I didn't like computers. I only began to like them when I bought my first computer through the half price computers for teachers deal. Since 2000 the Internet has been part of my life. I am keen on traveling and I have even found a computer to use on a tiny island in the Maldives. I mainly email friends and family when I travel. But when I am at home I use the Internet and email my friends as well. Maybe you could give yourself so many hours on the Internet a day. Perhaps you could try taking up a few new hobbies. Good luck.

I LOVE the internet and broadband! I've been on the internet since 1998. Of course, as you say, it was only dial up back then. It used to drive me crazy! I got DSL as soon as I could but then I discovered how much more reliable and how much faster cable was, so I said bye-bye to DSL. I'm sure that my dog would tell you that she should be my one and only hobby. Have a Happy and safe New Year.
