It seems she suffered from a psychological disorder called animal hoarding. You accumulate more and more until it becomes overwhelming. I'm a hoarder myself, and tend to find myself in clutter pretty often, but dogs? Good grief! http://www.arcamax.com/weirdnews/s-276074-137181

Ha ha this is just too funny! Now they have a medical name for everything a person does now days...I had to laugh when they diagnosed her with a disorder called animal hoarding...Thats funny to me...I am thinking that this woman really liked dogs, and someone let the cat out of the bag, so to speak, so they just started letting off stray dogs, or dogs they did not want out at her house...and she took them in...I do not understand people who take their dogs off because they suddenly don't want them anymore, but people do it all of the time..My husbands uncle got a reputation for taking in strays and it got around town, that he took pity on them and people starting letting out strays there at his house..He was kind hearted toward animals, so when a stray came up he would feed them and take care of them...Well it turns out he had to put up a high fence around his house and put a lock and key on it to keep people from throwing out their dogs at his house...If you really think about it, you know she did not go up and down the roads looking for dogs....Haha

Now that is a lot of dogs to have to live with. It is really hard to understand why someone would keep that many dogs. I understand her fear of them not getting good homes but good grief then stop breeding them and get the ones she has fixed. It would be more understandable if she were bringing in strays too.

I agree 235 is way to many dogs for one person. It's to expensive to feed that many for one and it could also be dangerous for one person. I don't know what she was thinking to want so many dogs at one time.

It's hard to imagine anyone being able to fit 235 of any type of animal in their home. I can understand the need to have company around you, as well, and even the need to hoard (I'm a bit of a hoarder myself, lol) but I cannot imagine ever trying to take in that many animals at one time, even though canines are by far the animals that I relate the most to. I feel sorry for this woman and hope that she was able to get some help.

I watch animal shows all the time and this is not uncommon. Some people just dont understand when enough is enough. I watched a show where a lady had over 100 dogs in her house. When the investegators were trying to round them up to take them the lady was hiding puppys from them. It really is a seriouse mental issue. In another one a lady had so many cats she couldnt afford food for herself and would eat cat food. Yuck! I understand these people want to help the animals but end up harming them in the end. The people get old and dont have the money to feed them or take them to the vet. These kind of people need help!

That is absolutely insane to have that many dogs in your home. Good heavens I couldn't imagine it. I bet those animal control people were very surprised by that. I have heard of animal hoarding as a psychological disorder, but I don't think that I have heard of such an extreme case such as this! What a shame.

Holy geez, you have got to be kidding me, that is a lot of dogs. 235 dogs, in one house! Can you just imagine the smell in that house? I have one dog and sometime her smell is too much, now just multiply that by 235. Wow, I should say that she defiantly suffers from a disorder.

wow, what a monstrosity. I have never heard of animal hoarding to the point that it is an illness. It is scary as most compulsive hoarding is - but in this case it is living creatures who may not be receiving proper food or attention due to the staggering number of them. were any found to be ill treated? I feel sorry for the woman, what an awful thing to have to endure, not just the compulsion but also the exposure.

Good grief! That is a lot of dogs to be found in one home. I have two cats and a dog and that is more than plenty for me. I'm a hoarder as well, but you would never find me hoarding animals.

Animals seem to be very good at making MORE animals, if not neutered, and I can't see her wanting to do that. I have known a woman like that... she felt so much love for her animals that the more there were, the happier she was. But hers included cats, pigs, turkeys, etc... luckily, her family and friends helped her get through treatment once they found out... she seems sad without them, though.

This story is much like one that happened here where I live. My family and I moved to this city for a new start and new job. We moved into a hotel until our previous home sold. While we were in the hotel we met a family who turned out to be hoarders. I often wondered why they chose to live in a hotel when they had a lovely home to live in on a very nice part of town. Were we surprised when the police showed up to arrest the mom and eldest daughter for the same type of situation. I was floored! You never know where a person's head is....

Wow! And I thought I had a lot of animals. I could never have that many animals. How could she even afford to care for that many dogs. I mean dog food alone can get pretty expensive. Then you have vet care. And can you imagine the smell all of those dogs made considering they said they were dirty.

My brother thinks I am a cat horder and will be on the news someday. I don't think I am... I just don't have the $ to get them fixed fast enough, and they just keep making more!! I find homes for many of them, then end up with more and more!! So it isn't me who's hording, they just won't stop making more. But I am about to fix the problem, as soon as the young ones are old enough to find homes.

Hello again, dear estherlou. Sometimes too many dogs is too many dogs. It is interesting to know that this woman keeps so many dogs in the crowded place that she could offer to the dogs though they are still in good shape. But I am wondering how come she has got that much money for the dog food that is needed. Her behaviour is not understandable though she has a big heart to the dog animals. Thanks so much for the link and the weird news.

I love cats and dogs so I could see how a thing like this could happen. If I lived on a farm or in the country I would have more than I do now. I have 2 cats and 1 dog but would love to have more. But your right, inagine that many, wow, it would be way too much work. Can you imagine the smell in her house.

Unfortunately, that is not at all uncommon. The sad thing is that these people often care about these animals a great deal, but ultimately they are doing them more harm than good, because there is no way they could possibly take adequate care of so many animals at once. Hoarding 'stuff' you've accumulated over the years is one thing, but living creatures? A whole other level.

I couldn't imagine the smell of the house! YUCK!!! I am the opposite of a collector, I throw out (recycle) everything. Nothing stays in my house except the living!
