I have returned home finally. I had a wonderful time at home. There was very little drama to be had and that was a welcome change! We had little gifts for Christmas but we had a great time. We had a honey ham, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, deviled eggs, creamed corn and biscuits. Oh it was so good. Mom made her famous chocolate pie, ice box fruit cake and banana pudding. Fabulous! There was a funny incident with the oven mitts while my brother was working on the ham. Apparently my mother is so cheap she throws nothing away! The oven mitts had holes in the palms of them and my brother didn't realize it and put them on and tried to pull the ham out and he started yelling ow ow ow!!!! Then he was yelling "why are there holes in the oven mitts!" My mom said you don't put them on, you just use them to hold things. Oh, I had a good laugh about that. Because the other oven mitt had a hole in it too and he threw it across the kitchen. We had a lot of good laughs. We watched a lot of movies, I went to visit some friends and spent most of my time at my parents. I saw my stepchildren and they are doing well. I am pleasantly surprised that my husbands ex-wife has pulled herself together so well. They have a nice apartment, very clean, the kids were clean and they were happy. She was clean and happy as well. No more drugs and she has held down a steady job that pays well for more than a year. I am proud of her and happy for her. So, I think that has to be the best gift of all this year. However, I am so glad to be back in my own house. I miss my family but there is no place like my own bed and to have more than one bathroom! 5 people sharing one bathroom in a tiny house....it's a wonder we didn't claw each other's eyes out! I hope you guys had a wonderful Christmas and enjoyed family and friends as much as I did. My husband will be home in two weeks for a three week vacation and I am very excited about that. We are going to give him his gifts when he is here. Then we will be traveling to Tampa to give the kids their gifts so he can watch them open them. We will also be taking the kids to Disney World! YAY! I am still a big kid at heart can't ya tell?

Yes, there is no place like home and I am sure this holds good throughout the year and not just during festival times. Its been two months since I moved into my own place (before that I used to stay with my in-laws) and these past weeks have been a roller-coaster ride for my hubby and me. On one hand we have been going overboard with the furniture, decorations, arrangements, bills, connections etc while on the other hand it gives me a certain kind of deep pleasure to call the place my very own, somewhere where I am the ultimate decision-maker of things. So everyday I just look forward to returning to my pad, refresh and then cozy up with my son till hubby returns and we have dinner together. My small whims, indulgences, my small balcony, my plants, even the clothesline seems to very ‘mine’! and how selfish I have become in these few weeks! Today is 31st night and we have been invited to my in-laws for a year-end dinner. Though I did not express it, but left to me I would not have wanted to go. Going there straight from office would mean that I would not be able to flop on my bed well before midnight! I have become so home-sick that I would rather have opted for a quiet dinner ordered from a takeaway in the peaceful and cozy confines of my house.

Well we returned around 11:30 last night from the party at my in-laws and boy! was my bed calling me. It does feel like heaven to be back in your own domain no matter where you go for the day.

Oh I know what you mean! When you have a place to call your own, sometimes you don't want to leave it when it is still new to you! I know! I am going to a evening event tonight that I really don't want to go to, but I am going because I had told the person I would be there. I would much rather do as you would prefer with a takeaway and cozy up on the couch with my daughter and watch movies. Try to have a good time and think that once all is done, you can look forward to going home...to your home and relaxing!

Yeah I totally know what you mean. I went to my friends house for dinner and I didn't even make it until 11 p.m. We ended up going home and I curled up in bed with a good book.

Welcome back! Sounds like you had an excellent time! Reading what you had to eat made me hungry! Sounds good. It is always great to be back at your own home though. I missed you as you were coming through. But you know how the kids are. They get money and have to spend it. Glad you had a great time! Welcome back!

Sounds like you had a very busy and Merry Christmas. Sounds like you have a very happy and lively family also. I didn't have much of a Christmas but my husband will be home on the 17th of January and that will be my late Christmas present. He was put in jail for 90 days because he was driving without his license but he will be home soon and that is all I want. You are right when you say there is no place like home. I like going to my mom and dads and mother-n-laws but I am always happy to be back home where I belong. Have fun at Disney World. I have always wanted to go there and I intend to go there someday. I am also a kid at heart still. :)

I am so sorry your hubby got put in the clink during the holidays. That sucks! I am sure you will be happy to be reunited with him here shortly. I haven't been to Disney World in years and am looking forward to taking the kids. I think it will be quite fun especially having my husband home for a few weeks. I hate that he is deployed and missing all of the good stuff back home. Anyhow, take care and stay strong. Your husband will be home soon!

It's nice to know that you had a wonderful time and you are not back home safe and sound. I guess it was crowded in that small house and only one bathroom. Yes I've been there. Glad to know that your ex's wife is now clean and sober. We went over to our older son and daughter-in-law's for Christmas dinner, saw the baby, my younger son came over, and I made sure to bring the camera so we could take pictures. Anyway Christmas morning when I got back from church service, and had lunch, I gave my husband a DVd and he gave me an electric wok. Oh he makes way much more money than I do. So we were giving an electric wok to my daughter-in-law, and tool kits to our two sons --so they can fix up their houses and do repair work. My older son will be looking to buy one soon. Well I got a tablecloth and soap and toiletry set, plus we got some coupons and free movie tickets, my husband got some DVds. So I will be doing some very heavy hinting for my birthday or maybe I will have to go over budget in gift giving. Oh I've always wondered about green bean casserole. We don't have that here in Canada, but I heard it is good down in the States.

I am glad that you had a wonderful time with your family! It sounds like you were quite busy. I love getting free movie tickets for any occasion. There is always something good to go see. That is a good gift idea! Green bean casserole is great. I love making it for the holidays. It is very easy and quick to make. Take care!

Congratulations on a lovely christmas. It sounds like a story book. I was nice to hear a step mom speak highly of the ex. It makes things so much easier for everybody. I know this personally. I treat my stepchildren as if they were mine. Their mom and I have never met, and from what I understand its probably better this way. I cant lie though I am curious about her. I am so happy that you get to spend time with your man. Disney World is the best! I wish you and yours a happy and safe trip. Oh and by the way, send your brother some new mitts. We dont want him to hurt himself again. Happy Holidays! dloveli
