Im looking into purchasing a DSLR camera for photography work. Do you own one of these type of camera? Which would you recommend or prefer. Most of my criteria for a purchase is based on price but it needs good features for optimal performace in photography. What would you suggest and where is the best place to find more information?

I would suggest looking at a Nikon. You can usually find them for a pretty good price at places like target (and they have an amazing three year replacement plan) or best buy. It all depends on what kind of money you are looking to spend.

Ive been looking somewhere inbetween the 500 - 700 dollar range recently. I looked at packages with lenses and such but i feel right now im not going to need that. Just the camera and basic accessories. Ive heard a bit about Nikon's but not about whether their any better than a Canon for example. If you were to compare the two would you say the Nikon is still better? Any reason?

In that price range, take a look at the Nikon D40, I got one for Christmas from my s/o, along with another lens. I love it, it takes exceptional pictures, it has 6.2 megapixel, and a lot of features that you can shoot either with a 'aim and shoot' setting or you can go manual and pick your settings. He did a lot of comparison, and research into it before he bought this particular one. I would recommend it, even to a pro

That would really depend on the budget and your future plans for the DSLR you are intending to get. If you are just getting one to try out the camera, I would suggest looking at a second hand camera body with accompanying lenses as the cost would be cheaper. I have done quite a few reviews in the following threads: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1348757.aspx http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1346770.aspx http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1348771.aspx http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1348775.aspx http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1356097.aspx Hope it is helpful in your selection. Do share with us which model you got and why you selected that model over the rest.

I don't have a DSLR camera but lately I bought a camera and that is nearly a DSLR camera. I bought Fuji S9600. And I think it works so well and I am so satisfied with it. If I am going to buy a DSLR camera, I think I will buy Olympus 510. As it's not expensive now and it works well, too. I know two photographers and they suggest me this. One of them even has Olympus E3.

I have used both the Nikon D50 and Nikon D80 Digital SLRs and I like them the best. I have tried the Canon ones, but to me they just are not as good and I have heard a lot about them breaking easily. Only problem I ever had with my Nikon was due to me not taking care of it and getting dirt inside the lense and I got that fixed for free because of my Best Buy warranty. Nikon's website has a good comparison sheet to compare the specs for the different models.
