Honey does wonders...

More than 4,000 years after Egyptians began applying honey to wounds, Derma Sciences Inc., a New Jersey company that makes medicated and other advanced wound-care products, began selling the first honey-based dressing this fall after it was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Called Medihoney, it is made from a highly absorbent seaweed-based material, saturated with manuka honey, a particularly potent type that experts say kills germs and speeds healing. Also called Leptospermum honey, manuka honey comes from hives of bees that collect nectar from manuka and jelly bushes in Australia and New Zealand. Comvita, which controls about 75 per cent of the world's manuka honey supply, sells similar products under its own name in Australia, New Zealand and Europe, where such products have been popular for over a decade. Since receiving FDA approval, Medihoney has brought in sales of $150,000 in 10 weeks and Quilty plans to nearly double his 15-person sales force in 2008 thanks to the two new Medihoney products. Honey dressings and gels, as well as tubes of manuka honey, have been gaining in popularity overseas, fuelled by scientific reports on their medical benefits and occasional news accounts of the dramatic recovery of a patient with a longtime wound that suddenly healed. Regular honey can have mild medicinal benefits. A study published Dec. 3 showed it helps to calm children's coughs so they can sleep. But manuka honey is far more potent. Manuka honey can kill the toughest bacteria even when diluted 10 times and recommends it especially for people with weak immune systems. Source: AOL News

I've never heard of manuka honey but have heard that honey is great for skin, irritated throats, and is somewhat antibiotic. I love honey and use it all the time.

First time I have heard about something like this. This is quite interesting. I wonder if places like Wound Clinics, etc, would use something like this, or they are scared of it. Also wonder what the results with this are for Diabetics and Chronic wounds? Being a diabetic myself who has had Chronic wounds myself which would have made me loose my leg, if this is Good and something that works, I hope many places get word of such a thing as this, and not be afraid to try it.

I strongly believe about the advantages of honey you have mentioned. Recently, when I went to New Zealand for holiday, I saw manuka honey everywhere. since I have never heard of manuka, I didn't realize the value of it. I thought it was just an ordinary honey. However, even an ordinary honey is extremely good for cough and some wound not only for children but also for adults. Whenever my little sister gets cough my mom gives her a mixture of honey and warm milk. This works wonderfully for cough that just starts, but for long-term cough it doesn't work; it's better to go to doctor and get stronger medicine. The best thing is as soon as cough starts get treated immediately at home with a mixture of honey and warm milk. Secondly, honey does wonders to a burnt skin. Some years ago, I burnt my arm skin, and after some days it bursted then I immediately applied honey every night, morning and afternoon. It was extremely effective; it got cured so fast and did not leave any scars at all. When applied honey on a burnt skin, best is to wrap the area with clean bandage, but DO NOT USE BANDAID. Thirdly, honey is even good for skin moisturizer. If posible apply honey on your face at least once a week, you will see a great difference. It makes face very soft and clear. Forthly, honey is good for hair treatment. Once a week, I apply honey into my hair, wrap it with hot towel then rinse and wash as usual after 15 minutes. It gives hair good shine, gloosy looks and also makes it really soft. But, there is one disadvantage. Honey is bad for people who have stomach ulcers. I suffer from chronic stomach ulcers, and I should say that honey is one of the worst things to eat. I cannot take even a bit of it. The moment I take a bit also, my stomach starts burning and aches severely.
