Boy was it a long time since I watched a movie with my wife. If I am not wrong, the last movie was before the Golden Compass. Well, we finally got the evening off and decided to end the day with a nice movie. So we voted for Will Smith's "I am Legend". The shows begins with Robert Neville (Will Smith), driving a really cool cobra around NY city. The city is in a very dilapidated state. Everything seems to be broken down. Weeds and grass are growing everywhere. Robert is the only person around. The story goes that a new virus that was genetically modified to cure cancer, has mutated. The mutated strain is making those who are treated to become zombie like. Called the Dark Walkers, they start to feed on the living, thus infecting them as well. But Robert seems immune to the virus. Determined to find a cure, he seeks out the infected beings at night and drags them into his underground lab for research purposes. The movie was good from the beginning. At the very start, the movie already give people the impression of loneliness. How he somehow managed to survive the plague that infected the world over. You could feel his desperate need for companionship. His dog, Samantha, is the only buddy he has. That is, until he was ambushed by the Dark Walkers. Samantha got infected trying to protect her owner. The scene where he has to put down Samantha was really touching. Finally, on the night he decided to take revenge on the Dark Walkers to avenge his dog's death, another survivor came to save his butt. There, the action starts to get interesting. But the ending was a disappointment. After waiting so long for the movie pace to pick up, the show ends with him sacrificing himself to save his savior. Passing the "cure" to her so that she can pass it to the scientist in the Survivor colony. That is his legend. The small bottle of blood. Sigh~~~ would have been great if the movie ended with something better. I was discussing with my wife... if the movie had at least show some scientist manufacturing the cure, and more and more infected beings are hunted down and given the cure. Then, THAT is the legacy of a legend. That the virus is eradicated and Robert is honored for finding the cure. Have you watched it? What do you think would have been a better ending?

Like I mentioned in an earlier posting, it is a great film to watch. But IMHO, it is not worth the price of a weekend ticket to watch it. I like the way the show is made though. Will Smith really manages to show the loneliness of how one man can be. The determination to survive and save the people who are infected is also laudable. If only the ending was better, then this film would have been even better!

yah... the show has been doing great in the box office here where I am as well. I am also surprised cos I thought that such a slow film is going to be dropped once more viewer reviews were posted after the first week. I guess Will Smith has quite a great fan base here too. But cannot deny that he did a great job holding the film up. Though the story is a little slow, he managed to pull it off. Showing the loneliness of being the only survivor and how he manages to stay alive all this while without going insane. Like you mentioned, if I had known earlier the pace of the show, I would have gotten the DVD instead. It is still a great movie to watch, but IMHO, it is not worth the ticket price for a weekend movie treat.

ha ha ha ha ha... I am so sorry ArsonCuff. The show has been on the big screen world wide for a while now. I would expect many to have seen the movie. I was wondering what kind of alternate ending would be preferred for those who have seen the movie. Do go watch the movie... it is nice, except for the ending. Share with us what alternate ending you would have preferred.

I didn't like the movie that much, I was actually bored throughout it. Will Smith did a great job in all but I just couldn't get into it. I don't know, but I expected more on the actual virus itself ... it just seemed like it wasn't finished in places...

I do agree with you somewhat on that the movie did not do much to tell us about the virus. But most of the other virus-induced zombie movies are also similar. Think Resident Evil, 28 days, Hazard... etc... they all just merely mention about the existence of the virus. And that is it... not much dwelling into the virus itself. So, no big surprise if it was a touch and go for the virus itself. Like I said, the movie could have been done in a better fashion. Especially the ending where it narrates his legend. Some how, it doesn't give you the feeling that it is a legend.

DO NOT READ MY POST IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE. SPOILER WARNING. i thought this was a great movie because of the emotion he showed during the movie. his acting was AMAZING. Will Smith better get an award for this movie. The end of the movie could have been better but i think it was good because most movies give you a feel good type of feeling like the good guy always wins and he always stays alive. This movie was refreshingly different. It did end abruptly but it gave people something they didn't expect. Although he did find the cure he did not survive. This movie also shows that if you try to play GOD and try to fix everything something 10 times worse will happen like this virus. Although unlikely that will happen that is probably the moral of this movie.

well, I was watching the news the other day. If I remember correctly, there are already a clutter of piglets that are genetically modified with genes that allow for their organs to be transplanted to humans! Already man is playing god by genetically engineering the animals to provide parts for human replacements. Although it is in its experimental stages, this is already the first step in bridging the human and animal divide. So I am praying and praying that things like those in the movie, will never come true!

I do not hate the movie cos of the ending. I just mentioned that it could have been better if the ending was different. We were brought into his loneliness throughout the movie. Moved by his dedication to find a cure for the virus. Feel for him when he had to put down Samantha cos she was infected. And then when he met up with the mother and son, the pace of the movie starts to pick up. And before that pace can pan out, the movie ends with him sacrificing himself by blowing up the place. Sigh~~~ could have been a better ending.
