Who is your National Hero?

Philippines

I just learned in school that our National Hero, Jose Rizal, is considered a genius. Dating back around the late 1800s, Philippines was still under Spanish Regime. Rizal was the one who said to have triggered the Philippine Revolution during that time. He was known as a writer. He wrote lots of things from poems to essays, then later on, from publication articles to novels. The novels Noli Me Tangere (Touch Me Not) and El Filibusterismo (The Reign of Greed) were his reknowned works written in Spanish. Aside from being a writer, he was also a doctor, a painter, a sculptor, a farmer, a scientist, a philosopher, and so on. He could also speak and write in 22 different languages. Who would have thought that a Renaissance Man would still exist in the 1800s? He also had a great sense of patriotism. Because of this, he was executed by a firing squad. I'm pretty sure that you are also proud of your National Hero, as much as I do with ours. Can you tell us about him/her?
