Of all the detective stories you've read, who do you think is the best detective? I'm not asking the best novel but the best character: someone who you truly appreciate and would read every book with him in it

I really like all from Agatha Christe, specially Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. I also like a more recent one but I can't remember his name it's a complicated name, some guy that inherited lots of money and solves mysteries with his two cats, actually the cats solve the mysteries LOL

LOL I talked to someone who read the books too and like us, although she remembered the cats she couldn't remember the name. It's something like twileran or something similar heheheh Miss Marple is one of the best accomplished Agatha Christie's characters. The little old lady that lives in a small village and nows about everyone's business but that above all can trace parallels about the personality of people she knows and the ones of the criminals. Not the same brillance as Poirot but a charm of her own:)

Ah I've read a novel with a guy with two cats, but I can't remeber the name too. It was really good, indeed. I never read a book of Miss Marple. What kind of character is she?

I've never read Agatha Christie's novels but I like Hercule Poirot very much, he's funny with his penguin-like appearence. I admit I know him from tv shows rather than from reading the books

I like Nina Reilly and her side kick/boytoy/partner Paul (sp) from the Perry O'shaunessy (sp) novels. They are so much fun. I feel like I am her in every book I read. She is pretty, smart, athletic, witty, sexy...she has it all :-)

I've never heard of Nina Reilly but your description seems interesting. From what book can I start? But if she's so perfect, is she a sort of Mary Sue?

I like Columbo. He's not born from books I think, but I've read a book with Lieutenant Columbo in it. It was good, but the Columbo from the tv series is better. The italian "Commissario Montalbano" is also one of my favourites. The sicilian flavour of the books is impressing.
