Toplessness! A fundamental Right of Women

Toplessness is a basic fundamental right of women! Without it they will always be subjugated and considered lesser, simply because they are censored. Both genders can now go topless in public in Canada, since the Canadian Federal government stepped in several years ago and made it law. The US. prides itself on its basic human rights! How long will it be before the US. follows suit and provides this basic women's right in America?

Give me a break, we have other basic human rights to worry about - how about medical insurance and education. The right to a good place to a decent place to live. The right to be able to heat my house in winter without having to stop eating because oil is so expensive. The right to be able to get a decent job so that I can afford to live. If my elected officials start spending my tax dollars discussing toplessness then I will be upset.

This law came about when a couple of women took it to court and won. Its all about equal rights for both genders. In Canada both genders are equal before the Law.

in america, both genders are equal before the law. But i agree with deb, we have a lot of other issues that need to be addressed and i would be kind of angry if they started talking about toplessness because id feel like politicans were using that as a distraction.

I can just imagine insurance rates going up as there are topless women on the streets and 16 year old boys driving. And I will believe there is equality and men and women are judged by qualifications, not gender

I don't see how I need to have the right to be topless in public to be equal to a man. What I need is the right to get paid the same for the same job and qualifications. I need to have people stop judging me if I choose to be a stay at home mom or if I choose to be a working mom. I need to not have to deal with men in position thinking I'm just a dumb female that they can say whatever they want to. Our government has a lot more important issues to deal with than whether or not women should be going topless. How about they start thinking about all the women out there without health insurance, all the women being abused by their partners with no way out because of the flawed welfare system, or all the women slowly killing themselves trying to look like the celebrities and models that are constantly being paraded in front of us.

This is utter rot, it is not that men have always had this right. A rights based system is relatively recent. Rather it was the custom of men too and women not to. Neither is it correct to say it was from lack of respect but rather from a misguided sense of respect. I find you attitude to this seriously warped all the best urban

This is what I'm trying to tell you. Everyone of these problems stem from men not respecting women. Let me say it again...... Its not about women going topless......its about the Right to go topless. Men have always had this Right, and until women do as well, its just one more reason not to pay equal rates for the same job!

I remember when they made it legal for women to go around topless. I think the men were all excited thinking women would actually be doing this, well, there is nobody walking around topless. There is the occasional one on the beach, but, we don't walk around topless in public on a regular basis.

Absolutely! The most exciting thing about this Gender Rights law is the fact that a bare chest on the beach is now as legal for women as it is for men. This law brings women a step closer to equality. WE are all Born Equal!

The men over there should be lucky. It also remembers me of those movies where tribal women are shown topless.Thanks.

I want all the same rights as men, including going topless. That being said, I might not exercise my right to go topless. Americans have too many taboos. Back when I had to have a roommate to make ends meet, I had a female roommate from Denmark. They sunbath topless, publicly and privately, but I don't think they walk the streets topless. But, if you think about it, how many men out of their teens walk around town topless. In most public places, everyone has to wear a shirt, even in convenience stores. Regards. :o)

Hi Joyce! I'm giving you "Best Response" because I thought you perceived the topic with the most clarity.I tried to make it plain that this wasn't about the act of going topless. It was about a Woman's Inherent Right to go topless. You got it Right!

Cool for Canada, though I can't say, myself..that I want that right as an American girl. Oh sure, once, on a hundred degree day I wished I could work topless..but never wanted to be topless in any other situation. I don't feel any less equal for that fact. Doesn't mean I think it's horrible that Canada's laws permit it, I think it's cool of Canada to be so considerate. But I don't consider toplessness a basic human right. I'm more concerned, as an American, currently..about heabeas corpus, which is now...TECHNICALLY optional, and if its optional its pretty much like not having it at all. And there's more issues, more bsic human rights which have been made "optional" during the last, well, eight years now of Bush's reign. So..yeah. Cool and all, but I'm a bit preoccupied with staying free right now. Perhaps toplessness will be an issue for America to address in the future, it would certainly be interesting ^_^

P.s. The reason why its never been considered in America, is 'cause most of its immigrants originally came from very heavily influenced be christianity, European countries. Canada is mostly influenced by France, and its not much of a contest, France has always been a little more..less modest than say olde England, regardless the century. America, even though it's labeled "the wild west", is still just a bit modest, less than it originally was, sure, but that's how it is for the most part.

I can agree with you on the "Bush" issue. He's not been good for America. I do think he's taken human rights back a long way. Perhaps Hillary will be better as President. She will want to go topless in the White House. She has to stay on top (a pun here) to keep Bill Interested. Thanks for your thoughtful response!

Heh. *winces* From what I've seen from her in her campaign so far I really doubt it, but that's me. Whoever we get as the next President, I hope they do better.

Hello my dear bearhugs friend. I quite agree with your viewpoints on this topic. Women are supposed to enjoy the same right in every field without being ignored since both genders are born equally. Thank you very much for your discussion. Happy New Year.

There may be a few ,but I've never seen any! If a topless woman on the street were to cause a traffic jam she would get charged with Public Mischief.

well im sure it would make a stir in the congress. since not all man have the same perspective on having woman rights to go topless in the public and i dont think there wil only be a few who will benefit on it and it doesnt have such strength to make a difference in our daily lives.i think the law has the power to do first the important things that makes the country benefit more other than having topless babes everywhere.
