I got a blackberry for Christmas

and I want to get it hooked up just to use interent on it. I don't want to use it as a phone. I have Verizon for my cell. What I want to do is add a link to my account now and get a new phone, then change that phone over to the number I have now. Then I can hook the blackberry up to the new number. Do you think I should do it this way? Does it sound like a bad plan or not?
