Bananas are a food that can have a good effect on depression. There are so many people these days that suffer from depression.Depression has occured in my life also.I've been through it,and my mother,my brother has been there and done that also. So,here's a little tid bit about bananas and depression-According to a recent survey undertaken by Mind against people suffering from depression, many felt better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan,a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and make you feel happier. Major depression happens when a person gets low on a brain chemical called serotonin.Low serotonin equals depression. There are quite a few people on MyLot that have posted about depression.Hope this helps some.

REALLY!?!?! i'm surprised. i never heard that bananas have tryptophan, nor that tryptophan converts into seratonin. i have never felt mellowed out after eating bananas like i do when i get a tryptophan effect from other foods....such as heated milk products or a meat-and-potatoes type combination in my meal. non-naturally occuring tryptophan can be produced by eating a heavy dose of protein and carbs....it's why many people feel sleepy after eating a holiday turkey dinner...all that turkey (unusually high in tryptophan when combined with carbs) and mashed potatoes or rice! :) but now i will remember your words if i'm feeling down and stuff my face full of tryptophan :D (funny enough, i was eating a banana when i read your discussion!)
