I wanted to place this under the category "frugal living" but with this new interest group layoput I couldn't find it. So I placed it here as it soes deal with "people" in the long run. HAHAHAHA! Now I have about 5 or more Dollar Stores all within 10 miles of my home. I visit them at least once a week. Mainly because I burn a lot of candles thus using a lot of lighters as well. I just went this weekend and got about a dozen cand;les and these lighters for $10 plus tax. I get my dads word search puzzles there as well, Buster gets his rawhide chews from there once or twice a year as well. I love shppoing there but the wife always says, "You were just here the other day. Why you need more candles?" HAHAHAHA. Well it's beacuse they don't always have the candles so if I am there and they have them I buy a lot so I won't run out. Do you shop the dollar stores? How often do you go? What are the main things you go there for? Or do you just pick up whatever they have that you may need or want? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I like to frequent the Dollar Tree, because everything is a dollar. Usually there isn't anything in particular I go there for. But the times that I do go in there for a certain item, I end up getting and spending way more than I went in there for in the first place. Tip: Keep candles in the freezer until ready to burn and they burn slower. At least that is what I have been told.

For a dollar each I am not worried how long they burn actually. They last a long time though as they are for me. I usually spend more and get more then what I had planned on as well. Hahahahaha!! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Glad to know otherwise that putting candles in the freezer is only a myth!

There is a dollar store here in town and one by my bank. I visit both equally but not very often. Only when I think of it do I go to them for odds/ends.

I like the dollar store for some things, not so much for others. I like getting candle holders there, and glasses, and cleaning supplies. I don't like the candles there because they are not as fragrant. That is one thing I think is worth spending a little more money on. A jar candle from Yankee can be burned for about 100 hours or more and has a fragrance that you can smell through most of the house, so to me it's worth $15. I do get the taper candles at the dollar store though, since those are for light more than fragrance. I don't go to the dollar store too often anymore, since there is not one near me, but once in a while I check out what they have.

Yes we have a lot of dollar stores around here too. We have Family Dollar(quite a few of them actually) Dollar General(quite a few of them too) and we also have one called The Dollar Tree and this one truly has everything for a dollar. The other ones don't have everything for a dollar but they are still just as good. I buy my crossword puzzle books there and sometimes my cleaning and toiletry products there but I have also found that at our Wal-Mart some of these products are actually cheaper than at the dollar store. For instance, at the Dollar store (any one of them) Toothpaste is between $1.00 and $3.00 but at our Wal-Mart they have it there for 88 to 94 cents. Same with Shampoo and Conditioner and razors. Feminine products are even cheaper at Wal-Mart! Now I don't buy my soap at the dollar store because I have to use a special soap called, Cetyphil because I have an allergy to some fragrances and I break out if I use regular soap. Wal-Mart is the only place I can get that soap and even though it is $3.00 a bar I have no choice but to buy it. So yeah I do shop there when I need to but I buy most of my stuff at Wal-Mart. :)

Hi Bob I frequently shop the dollar stores as you can get pretty good deals on some things, for instance cards and gift wrap, most other places the cards start at $3.95 + and the gift wrap starts at 2.98 for tissue wrap all can be gotten at the dollar store for a busk each I also find that spices are much cheaper as well you can get socks for a buck a pair. there are things I do not bother with like can Vegetables and stuff that can be had for less than a dollar a tin , but they are a good place to check out

i wish i had a dollar store nearby. i think there are only one chain of dollar stores in my tiny country. and they are in the large malls. not so convenient. travelling there already costs me almost three dollars both ways on public transport. sometimes i drop by when its convenient. but i don't buy a lot of stuff there. sometimes i realise that the things there are cheaper in normal priced stores. some things are worth more than 1.99 and some things are worth less. makes sense from the company's perspective i guess.

Oh yes I sure do! I buy cat food from there of 9-lives which comes in three flavors but Walmart only carries one or two of the flavors so I go to Dollar General to get the one flavor that Walmart doesn't carry. Plus I'll get charmin basic toilet paper for it's much cheaper there, maybe even a rug or some sheets, and I get some kids toys when our God kids are up during the summer. Frugal living? Heck yeah! lol

Speaking of dog food, we have two german shepherds and one has hip dysphasia and has a terrible time getting up and down. When we had them both spayed, the assistant told us she got her male from the same breeder and she filed a complaint and urged us to do the same in which we did. She did some research on dog food and said that all the name brand and off name brand dog food is no better than handing your dog a shoe but she found this brand, Purina Pro Plan to be the best there is in terms of nutrition and such plus to exercise our dog to keep her in top shape which will build muscle in hopes to give her a better quality of life. We started using this dog food and she seems to be doing much better. So I thought I'd pass that along to you. It's a bit more expensive and it's hard to find so you'll have to do a search online to find it. We have to go to the next town which is in the next state, Virginia to get it. It's not really that far but it's worth it if it's helpful to the dog.

We go to the Dollar Tree every once in awhile if we are out to eat or shopping and there is one nearby. I like to get my younger kids puzzles from there because they are over $2 cheaper for the exact same puzzles elsewhere. I also like to go after Christmas when the wrapping paper is all marked down to 50 cents a roll! I stock up for the next year.

I always go to the dollar store probably twice a week never really knowing what I'm getting though. I just walk out with bags of stuff, usually it's packing supplies and bubble mailers for my soap, ribbon, that type of thing. No No I just can't stop there though- candle holders, tealights, I make my own tarts and candles so I never get those there, books for my kids, the list goes on and on. Only thing is my favorite huge Dollar General in my area just closed! :( Darn!

Hi webeishere, I know what you mean when it comes to the many "dollar stores" that seem to be in close proximity to each other. For me, it represents convenience if you can get something you need quickly by saving some travel time. I have not been to my local dollar store in a while. It is in walking distance from my apartment. From what I have gathered, they don't always have the best prices or variety; but they are "everywhere" and I guess that is the point. Sometimes, if you were to compare your dollar store buys with similar buys from somewhere like Walmart, you'll find the only thing you save is gas when you shop at a dollar store. Anyway, Happy Shopping and Posting. Take Care.

We have a Dollar General within five minutes drive from us and I am there at least once or twice a week. I go there to get the things we run out of like toilet paper, dog food, food, and just whatever else they have that we need. I have also gotten some of my gardening items from there. I love having them so close.

We dont have dollar stores. There used to be a $2.00 store but I haven't seen it around for awhile. We do have discount stores, such as Cheap as Chips, Le Cheap & the Warehouse, Go Lo, etc Probably Cheap as Chips is the best. They have $1.00 bargains. I like it & the kids love it. I will buy batteries, notepads, cards, etc from there.

I go there for house cleaning stuffs and sometimes wet mop. Anything that will be thrown away after use or not for show off. I also got crafting materials from there, like scissors and glue, not all crafting but it's not bad. I also buy batteries, for camera, clocks, watches etc. In stores they will cost me $ 1 each while I can get $ 1 for three in dollar store. You can even get borders there, you know for wall decoration if you're into it. I don't lit candles. If I do buy it's usually for aromatherapy

I go their for energy drinks, cleaning supplies, and basically just about everything. They have good soap I use...they have cheap OTC medicine, like generic benedyrl. I love their candles, too. I would say I probably go at least once or twice a week, hehehe. I spend lots of money there, but I love their stores. We have lots of dollar stores around us, too. Pablo

I love to buy my colectable teapots at the dollar store. I also have some nice coffee mugs I got at the dollar store. I have gotten a lot of nice stuff at the 99cent store. I love to go to their book section to see what books I can find.
