I think that this saying is true. Dogs love you unconditionally.

They are by far mans best friend. They are endowed with instincts uncommon to that of other animals: Faithfulness, kindness, and understanding surpassing that of mankind themselves. They are denied the power of words, lest it impair their understanding. They speak to their masters with honest eyes. Here is a Member of the Family poem for you: What would I do without you, my precious fury friend? Part mischeif, but all blessing and faithful to the end You look at me with eyes of love you never hold a grudge. You think I'm far to wonderful to critisize or judge I know your greatest joy in life is being close to me I think God knew how comforting Your warm soft fur would be I know you think your human but I'm glad it is not true Though the world would be a nicer place If folks were more like you A few short years are all we have One day we'll have to part but you my pet will always have a place within my heart

Dogs can love you no matter what. They are happy when you are back home, regardless for how long you were gone... They are so loyal for people. Dogs love is unconditional and very rewarding...

Hi...and welcome to Mylot. I always thought I was more of a dog lover than a cat lover and that dogs and the way they relate to humans was more loving than the way cats showed their affection. My hubby and I have always had pets...dogs and cats and usually at the same time and they all get along. Right now we have two big dogs...but our oldest female's time with us is coming to an end. She is going into her 16th year and her failing health is diminishing the quality of her life and soon it will be time to put her down. She will be missed...but has had a great life. Our other dog is around eight and is a great pet too. Having said all this I now feel that our cats are just as much a best friend as the dogs. They are extremely affectionate, loving and are always around in my office or down with hubs and me while we are watching television or movies. They always know when we are feeling under the weather and will lie on a sore spot if they can. They come and meditate with me and always have a calming influence. They are funny, entertaining and we value their presence in our lives and what they add to it. So yes, dogs are great companions...but they are also a big commitment. They need to be groomed, walked, played with and cannot be left alone the way our cats can. They require a lot of focused attention and as much as I love them...I greatly appreciate the kind of friendship and companionship our cats provide without the same commitment of time and energy that the dogs involve. There is another downside to responsible dog ownership. We are avid gardeners and live in a climate where there is a lot of snow in winter. When it melts in the Spring there are large piles of feces to clean up and with the cats we do it every few days and it doesn't overwhelm us the way the poop in our yard does each new season. When we walk dogs in our town you need to carry a bag and pick up the poop...so yes, dogs can be great friends...but they do require a LOT of work in areas many people never talk about in their idealized view of dog-dom. Anyway...I share perspectives...and that is all I've offered here. Cheers, Raia
