What's that gunk coming out of my daughter's ear

My daughter had tubes about a year and a half ago and since then hasn't had any problems with ear infections. But she recently had some drainage from her ear. Gross! Is that a common symptom of an ear infection.

Yes, it is. I would get your daughter into a doc asap. If it gets to bad the infection could cause her ear to swell resulting in another surgry. Also it could mean that her tube has fallen out. I would get it checked out very soon. Good Luck I hope it is nothing serious.

I hope not either!! My friends little boys ear started doing that the other day along with some blood and it was because his tube had fallen out!! Good Luck and let us know the out come after she sees the doctor.

Please get your daughter to a doctor!! My daughter had this and it turned out that her ear drum ruptured! That is the ears defense to relieve the pressure off of the ear drum. My daughter was in severe pain after this and went into the hospital.

I'm thinking that's what happened. She hasn't had any pain but has a dr.s appt tomorrow, so we'll see.

Hi tcolwell, welcome to myLot! Gee, since she's already had ear problems and has the tubes in, I'd think a trip to her doctor is really necessary to find out for sure what exactly is going on. Sounds like maybe she's got an infection of some kind going on. Only a dr can know for sure if the problem lies in an infection, or something with the tubes themselves. (Maybe the tubes got plugged or something?) If she does have some kind of infection, then he can get to the bottom of it and decide what the best course of action would be (antibiotics or whatever.) Good luck! Poor kid, I hope she's not too uncomfortable with it.

Thanks. I do have an appt. scheduled for her for tomorrow. She's not complaining at all. No fever either. She's gonna be a flower girl in a wedding Saturday, I hope antibiotics can clear it up my then. Wouldn't that just be so pretty!
