A Possable Breakthrough Therapy....

Canada

I was doing a search and came across this video about Chelation Therapy for Autism. I had read about this and heard of this before but this sounds really great! Check it out! http://www.evenbetternow.com/video.asp This is something I think I may try on my son this year... If you have an ASD Child, have you tried this before? What were your results? Please share your thoughts and ideas here! ~Heavens~

Nope. I'll look into further in a moment, I hope it's as much of a breakthrough as it claims and not just a false hope sort of thing. I really hate when it's written, pushed and everyone believes it and then it doesn't do anything. Sounds nice though. ~Joey

Thanks so much for your response here my friend but if you read the response just below your from Debs_Place Your questions and mine will be answered....It sounds like the risks are just not worth it!! I will just get him allergy testing done and move on from there in adjusting his diet...I understand that this is particularly effective to those with bowel issues which my son has! Thanks Again My friend! ~Heavens~

It sounds like a good idea and unless the child is taking medication, it would work. It also sounds that in order to prevent or less Autism, the child should follow a natural diet and the mother should when she knows that she is pregnant. I always thought that the preservatives in the processed food was not that good. Anyway this chelation therapy would work for children in which autism just developed and might also work for those in which the autismn is inherited. Would your doctor be okay for you trying out this therapy?

I would have to consult the pediatrician on this but my son is not on any medications and so that is in his favour! I will be doing more research on this however I have read so much on it already and it seemslikesomething that maybe I should do..... Thanks for you input here ~Heavens~

I would contact a DAN DOCTOR because chelation can be serious and if I was to do it, I would only want a DAN DOCTOR doing it. So if you are not sure, contact one or read up on DAN DOCTORS... DAN stands for "Defeat Autism Now".....

Thanks Foxee! I have heard of DAN Doctors and looked up some in my area but there are none real close and i am afraid they would cost money to see and so I have not gone about getting one! I would never have this procedure done anyway due to more I have read since I originally posted this! ~Heavens~

Hi heavenschild, This is all very interesting. I've just visited the website mentioned above, and have read the article about this. Of course, they have a disclaimer there, as they want to make sure they're protected against any possible repercussions, as a result of this. They also want to sell their products, which as you know I'm sure, are the 'clay baths, and the medication.' They do mention that these 'treatments' are sometimes used by Dan doctors. Is there anyway you can get one of these doctors for your son? This could be a start. Consulting his pediatrician before trying anything like this, is also good advice. I 'know' your son has come such a long way, and fully understand your desire to see him reach his fullest potential, in life. From everything 'I know,' you're doing an amazing job at seeing that his needs are met, and that he gets all of the help he so richly deserves, and needs. I wish you all of the best for this New Year, as you continue to press on, and be an advocate for your son. God Bless.

Hi Mom! I have known about Dan Doctors for about two years now andf even went on-line over a year ago and found listing for Dan Doctors in my area wrote down a bunch of names and phone numbers but that is as far as I got... I am hesitant as I do not think they are covered under our Canadian Health Care Plan! I am really afraid of the cost but have wanted one for a long time! Perhaps I should just make some phone calls and make some inquiries on these services as I know other families who use them but I am almost positive they pay out of pocket for the service! I am going to make an appointment with his pediatrician as I want to get some allergy testing done on him anyways. Thanks so much for your care and concern here as always! ~Heavens~

It's worth looking into the Dan doctors anyway. I wonder if there's any funding available for them? Good idea, to have your son tested for possible allergies too. Take care.

Don't do it. Chelation is a treatment for heavy metal poisoning. Autism has NOTHING to do with heavy metal poisoning despite the squawking of certain groups about mercury thimerosal in vaccines. Chelation can also be lethal if not done correctly, and has killed at least one autistic child, see http://scienceblogs.com/insolence/fastsearch?order=date&IncludeBlogs=17&search=tariq for the history of the case. The blog I listed has a lot of information about the hazards of chelation and the problems of reporting on autism. Another resource that you might find useful is http://neurodiversity.com/. Also check out Quackwatch about chelation.
