I'm so glad you asked! (Seriously.) In October 2006, I bought a new desktop computer that cost half as much as what I paid for my laptop five years ago. It's crazy. I'll tell you about both of them although I can't really brag about the laptop much anymore. The laptop is a Gateway with a Pentium 4 processor and 60GB of hard drive space. I'm pretty sure it has 512GB RAM because it successfully runs The Sims 2, which is my all-time favorite PC game. (I'm a nerd. I know!) It has a 15-inch screen, but it's nothing fancy. It runs pretty fast, but the Internet is slow since I had to buy that separately. It even has a floppy disk drive! That definitely dates it. It burns CDs, though. It was about the best I could get that long ago. Isn't it funny how quick technology goes out of date? Technology in general has an 18-month (year and a half) turnover. Okay, so now you understand why I had to upgrade. I needed the laptop for college, but now that I've graduated I had to get something better. My desktop is an HP with a dual-core Athlon processor. It has 320GB of hard drive with 3GB RAM (and capability to upgrade to 8GB RAM). My pride and joy is the 22-inch flat-panel, Bright View (glossy, shiny, and you can see your reflection in it!), widescreen LCD monitor that came with my computer. It's pretty amazing. It was intimidating at first before I got used to it! It runs The Sims 2 no sweat. And to give you a glimpse of the laptop vs. PC (512GB vs. 3GB RAM), it took 45 minutes to install the game on my laptop compared to between 10 and 15 minutes on the desktop. The game usually takes a good 5 or 10 minutes (sometimes even 15 minutes!) to load on the laptop, but about 3 minutes or less on the desktop. If you know anything about the game, it's very demanding on the video card. I can't remember what kind of video card either computer has. My PC has the LightScribe capability and can burn CDs and DVDs (of course). I haven't used the LightScribe yet, but in case you don't know what it is, it basically burns an image into your CDs and DVDs to serve as a label. It's really neat looking! Oh, and I can also burn on both sides of CDs and DVDs. I would have to buy the right kind, though. I can't really remember anything else about either computer, but thanks for asking. Excellent discussion!

Thank you! If Office Depot were still running the same deal, I'd most definitely refer you to their website and the link where I got my computer. The price was right! (Like I said, it was half the price of what I paid for my laptop five years earlier.) It still runs great now almost three months later. I'm pretty much addicted to my computer. I'm not much of a geek, but I could probably upgrade some of the "guts" once the current ones become obsolete. I learned a little of computer hardware maintenance in school. This was an excellent discussion. It is my pleasure to participate. I'm honored that you've chosen mine as best response. Thanks again and keep up the great work. I'll have to let you know when I see another unbeatable computer deal come along.

I got nothing special. But i do want to buy/build my own computer sometime when i get some money. I have been looking around at computer parts places to see what to get. Im thinking of quad core with an awesome motherboard. Not to sure yet , just looking still. Extreme processors start at 1000$ way to much for me so thats out of the question. Possibly if i wait sometime they will go down. Also all electronics get better and better every year.
