The new James Bond

So after all the ballyhoo about the new guy, what did we think of the movie? I thought the action scenes were OK, but the long scenes of the card game makes the movie uneven. The villain is also rather bland. I do like the new direction for the Bond character, which is really just taking it back to its roots. I don't think audiences were entirely ready for it, being weaned on girls and gadgets. Also M's relation to him is a little unconvincing given the trouble he causes at the start of the movie.

Certainly not in the same class as the other Bond films, I found it far too slow, bland and insipid. I think Daniel Craig spoilt the film as well as the villains being wiped out very quickly, too quickly, no build up. Casino Royale is the only film I don't and won't have in my collection. I have every single Bond film apart from that one, because it just didn't do it for it, very very disappointing and I think Bond has gone down hill now and I won't be rushing to see the next Bond film when it comes out.

I wouldn't mind the bland villains and less girls but I miss the delightful puns and double entendres. If I wanted just a straight action film with a serious hero that doesn't have a love interest, i would put in my copy of Mission Impossible 1.
