Problem with turning off iPod touch.

I just got my iPod touch for christmas and I love it but I have a little bit of a problem. When I go to turn it off, all the way off not just in sleep mode but pushing the top button to turn it off, it doesn't quite work. First the screen turns black and I think it is off. Then a few seconds later the silver apple will blink on for a second or two. Then it will go back to black; a few seconds later, the apple again. This continues to happen while I try to turn it on/off a few more times. Eventually it seems to stop but only after running my battery down pretty low. I only listened to it for about 3 hours on a fully charged battery but after the on off issues happening twice the battery was down to 20%. Whats going on? Do I have a dud?

I think you have to hold the button until the red bar appears saying slide to power off. This same thing was happening to mine. I had to experiment.

Its after it powers off. It turns back on for a second or two then back off and then on again.

I read the instruction booklet and fiddled around until I figured it out.
