This is completely just my thoughts about Dell so I hope I don't step on anyone's toes or what. Here goes: Dell computers are for the masses. They are for your average Joe's use and consumption so much so that the components aren't all that great. Don't get me wrong, they don't sell substandard stuff, all I'm saying is that those who are very computer savvy would not get a Dell because they know other brands have better ccomponents. In fairness to Dell, they are providing the average Joe with what he needs at a very competitive price. Customer service? I heard that their tech people are good, dont know about cs though.

Personally...I liked my HP better than my new Dell. Although my interest is probably altered by the fact that my HP had XP on it and my new Dell came with Vista preinstalled. My opinion of computers bought off the shelf is this: Once a computer hits a "shelf", there has already been a better one made. I believe that all manufacturers of computers, be it Dell, HP, E-Machine or whatever, put the cheapest components that they can get their hands on into the computer. This is how they make their money. The computer itself looks great (on the outside) and at first it runs like a champ. But as you use it in everyday life you will find that it doesnt keep up. This is because they put in it what they can get away with. They test it and if it works then "voila", put it on the shelf. The best computer you will find is one that you put together yourself. You will make sure that all parts are of good quality, not just the cheapest thing you can find.

I agree, Those computers you see on the shelf or even on websites have parts that have been out for sometime unless you buy a computer that just came out. When i get some $$ and buy a better computer i'm going to build it myself. Put in what parts i want , everything. Then i know what i am getting. So far the computer i have now for 5 years is working good for what i do.

omg, i had a dell laptop and my wife had a dell laptop, nothing but trouble from the word go!!! it starts of with the random freezing of the whole laptop, nothing on the screen moves and you HAVE to press the power off button, i know you shouldnt but there is nothing else you can do.....this happenned on both laptops. then, the power lead starts to come apart near the power in jack, which then you have to bodge to keep it running.....this happenned on both laptops. the next thing is the hard drive gives up working and you start hearing this scratching and whirring noise coming from the laptop, this is the start of your major problems. parts of your hard drive start to go missing and next you have to reformat a hundred times, whilst losing all your files......this happenned on both!!! the batteries went on both of them and then the thing decides that enough is enough and gives up. both laptops lasted no longer than 2 years, but the major problems only took about 8 months to infest. so, no i wouldnt buy anything with the word dell on it again. tried to get someone to look at them, and it would have been cheaper to go out and get a new laptop altogether, than to pay someone to fix/repair or bodge it like i did. sorry to vent, but you wanted my honest opinion, i am just going on my personal experience of dell.ultimately the choice is yours!!!

I had a Dell Inspiron 1500 laptop that chugged along faithfully for close to seven years, and which I killed by spilling green tea on the keyboard. I had installed so many programs on it that it took a while to load but it never failed me! I was kicking myself in the b**t for fritzing it, because it was so dependable. Anyway, I now have a Dell Vostro 1500 that runs on Windows XP. My ordering experience was very pleasant, and I had one occasion to call tech support, and again, I was really pleased with the service. I love my Dell laptop.

I've had a Dell desktop for over two years and only had a problem with the installed software that came with it. Their customer service however was very poor. After many calls to them I not only had gotten no resolution to my problem but had been lied to about what they would do. I finally got them to do the right thing because I was a stockholder and sent an email to someone at investor services and complained. He called me and took care of my problem. I have since sold my stock since I thought it was going to go down, it did. So I guess I don't have that path if I have future problems.
