I am a former Emergency Medical Technician, I worked the rig (ambulance) and in Triage of the hospital Emergency Dept. What do you think of EMTs? Would you be one? Why? Why not?

I think EMT'S are terrific. Be sure to give them a big thanks when you see them-they don't get that enough. I am not an EMT but sure would be one if it were possible. I feel confident in myself to help whatever I can when needed.

I believe that everyone should have EMT training, especially if you live in a rural area.

Whether you live in a city or rural countryside, I think EMT skills should be part of high school training. What do you think?

It's a high pressure, high burn-out job, but everyone seems to love and appreciate EMTs!

Why would you not be an EMT?

I think they do a great job...one I couldn't do. Having to go to accident scenes would be much to hard on me... Takes a strong stomach to do what they do.

Yes, it does take a strong stomach. But the training does tend to desensitize you to the gore...you go on autopilot and do your job!

I actually took a course and I had to go for my test and had to miss it because of a family emergency. I have to take the entire course over now. It was very interesting. I liked going along for ride times. I would consider taking the course again. I am trying to save up money to get back into school. =0)

In the USA, EMT training may be offered through adult education, community colleges, or regional occupational programs.

I am actually going to college to get my paramedic/Fire science license right now. I think just the rush of running to a scene and seeing that and seeing a person would be great. And i'm not all grossed out by gore either. What city were you an EMT in? did you see a lot of action?

I admire EMTs for what they do and have the utmost respect for their profession. I got to ride along in an ambulance in a small city for three weeks as a student and the medics I worked with amazed me every day. I would never want to be one though, the pay is terrible and theres so much stress. I don't have the patience to deal with some of the patients they get either.

I have always wanted to be a vet, not a doctor though. I prefer treating animals than humans. I feel that I will violate the ethics of the medical society LOL What is the toughest bit about being an EMT? In where I live we call them paramedics by the way.
