Have you ever received a gift that you never took out of the box?

All these talks of gifts has brought back some awesome memories from the past. The whole re-gifting thing has brought to mind a really good one! A very long time ago, my mother bought a friend of hers a nice serving plate for Christmas. I remember remarking on how I really liked it and knew the person she got it for would enjoy it also. Well, for some reason or other, she never got together with that friend over the holidays and the next year, she put my name on the tag and gave it to me. Well, since I had already seen it the year before, I never even took it out of the box to look at it. Shortly after the new year, I moved back home with her and the tray was boxed up for when I got my own place. A couple years later, still living at my mother's, she asked if she could borrow the tray. I knew where it was boxed up and got it out for her. Later, when she got home, she asked me why I had never opened the box to even look at it. I didn't know how she could know this until she handed me the $20 bill that she had put in the present. That was the first year she gave us cash with our present, so I wasn't expecting it. I'm really glad I didn't re-gift that one!!! The next year, my mother decided to put the cash between the wrapping paper and the present. My brother ripped his bill in half. Now we get a separate envelope for the cash. I know we all receive things that we never open, but after that I do take everything out of the box and check it before I send it on it's merry way!

No, receiving a gift excites me so much that even if it’s a gift for the entire family, I am always the first one to open it.

Unless the box is factory sealed and is very obvious that it is the actual item in the box I do open each gift, even if I think I won't use it. My family is known for re-using boxes, so it is never safe to assume that the item in the box is what it says!

Yeah, we reuse boxes all the time. People used to think they were getting something from Melaleuca because we reuse those boxes all the time. Now they all know it's going to have something else in it. I didn't open mine because I had already seen it the year before and knew what it looked like. I probably did open the side and peek in to see that it was the same, but I never took it out of the box!
