Place a banner on profile

I have seen many people around here places their own banner on their profile. I wonder how do they do it. Pls help me!Thanks in advance!

I asked the same thing a few months ago and some people tried to explain it to me, but I couldn't get it to work! So, maybe the second time will be the charm. I'll be anxiously waiting to see if someone explains it so I can understand. (I'm responding from my e-mail notification, so I haven't read the responses yet in case someone told you how!) Annie
