Well it seems it is time to take my car to the carwash for some detail work. With the snow here lately my carpet is getting stained with the remnants of the salt people use on the streets and parking lots. Do you wash your own carpetting or do you take it to a carwash to have them do it for you? I do this as my son manages a carwash and I get it done for free or at least for half off. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I wait till in is warm...it is winter where I am now, & I pull all the carpets out & hose t hem down myself, & then hang them on the clothes line to dry. But, if you can get it cheap where your son is, go for it.

I am referring to the carpet itself not the mats. I do wash the mats often in the winters. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Well since I don't have that luxury I have to do it myself and if it gets that dirty I'll take my mats and put them in the washing machine. They come out looking almost new and then I hate putting my feet/shoes on them for they'll get dirty again! :( lol

I do my own car carpeting and washing. I use a mixture of vinegar and water on the carpeting and it does a better job than just regular washing with soap or purchased cleaning products. (Did you know that when you get salty boots/shoes, etc, you can just sponge over it with some white vinegar and it totally takes it off? Best of all, the vinegar leaves no staining.) I don't do any of that stuff until it's a much warmer day outside. Brrrrr, us chilly women have to wait for the sun to shine for that kind of job lol.

But it's so cold the carpet freezes from getting wet. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Lucky you haha. We go to a carwash but do the insides ourselves. For some reason I don't like others snooping I mean cleaning the inside of our car LOL

My Bissell little green clean machine does wonders on the car carpeting but I'm thinking of having the whole inside detailed come late spring since they have the tools to do a heck of a better job than I can.

I seriously need to get this done. I am afraid to go through car washes though. Got stuck in one a few years back and I am clastrophobic....a little. Bawled my head off when I finally got out. I have found one though that will run it through for me. I have yet to have the carpet shampooed though. I need to do that too but it might be spring before it gets done.

I have salty hardwood floors...at least I can wash it...can not imagine to have stained carpet... I noticed that it is so difficult to clean salt in general...

When I first started reading this, I thought you meant carpets inside a house, until I realised you meant carpets in a car. We dont get a salt problem on our carpets. They just get filthy from general use & careless kids who drop things on the carpet. I just vaccuum every now & then. I guess I could buy one of those foaming carpet cleaners & use that to clean the carpet. If you have free access to a car wash, this is the way to go!!

this is interesting, now I've never heard of salty carpets! when i first saw the subject title the bizzare thought of licking the carpet came to mind. but I'm sure that would give one an instant bad belly! congratulations on getting a discounted carwash! Personally I would just do it myself cos carwashes can be kinda pricey. :)
