I have been working hard on my writing...

A deadline for a short story contest has forced me to work hard at chiseling a 4,500 word story down to 2,500 words. Not an easy task. The larger story will be used for our anthology our writing group will be publishing, the shorter story will be sent to the short story contest. I am pleased I was able to make two stories out of one, considering I haven't done much writing at all lately. Turning over a new leaf this year... focus on my writing. I know I said that last year but I am more committed this year. A discussion on a fibromyalgia message board prompted me to write another article for Triond (they reminded me I hadn't published in awhile LOL!). You can view it here: http://www.healthmad.com/Aging/Short-term-Memory-Loss.71150 Though they are small accomplishments, I am headed in the right direction and feel this year is promising for me and my writing. I have my writing group to support me and keep me going. What about you? Any new writing goals for this year?

I am glad you used the word "goal" and not "resolution". With me resolutions are made to be broken. Your discussion topic prompted me to think about my writing. I used to keep a daily journal, and I would write poetry otften. I have not done this in years and frankly I miss it. I think I will now set a goal to start a journal again. I will also reread some of my poems or past journals to see if they will prompt any writing subjects or thoughts. Good luck to you and with your stories. I will take the time to read the one listed in your discussion. Happy New Year!

Thank you for your support. I do hope you find some time to write again. It can help ease some of the thoughts and feelings that may be weighing you down. Good luck!

Great article Pat and I also play some of those games you mentioned. I think I'll get the brain age one for my hubby and I. Keep up the awesome writing and I look forward to reading more of your articles. As for me, I am not much of a writer but I do blog from time to time on my son's website. I do it for fun and to update our family overseas on what's happening with us here in US. Happy New Year!

Thanks. I did get my short story finished and in the mail before the deadline. Hopefully it MADE it there before the deadline. Now that it is done I am once again at a block. *sigh*

No, no writing goals for me. I write if I feel like it, but I'm not trying to make a career out of it. Good on you, though, for being diligent.
