There is a new website to confess sins. Is this the same as confessing to God? Why? Why not?

I don't think it's the same as confessing to GOD. GOD does not need a computer to hear your confession.

I guess some may see it as the same because they are confessing their sins. Maybe they dont feel right doing it in church. My family doesnt go to church, so i confess my sins (if i have them) to god by saying it outloud or in my head.

Thank you for your reply! I saw this topic on television yesterday, and wondered what people think of it.

A person does not need a website, church pastor or anything else to confess their sins. To me confessing on a website is not the same as confessing to God. Confessing your sins to Him should be private and between soley you and God.

i'm a catholic, but that's one sacrament i don't participate in, confession. like the others here believe, i'd rather confess directly to God and make absolution for my sins.

No it is just talking about it. I talk about my sins with everybody i have no secrets, I gues my bigest sin is lust. Evin if I go to a prist and confess that will still gave no efect in the eyes of God, it will still be just talking about it. Your sins are forgiven only when fou understand and you feel what you did wrong and feel sory and cry for them. Only than will one be forgiven

Aside from confessing, feeling sorry, wrong, and crying--must one change their behavior to be forgiven?

You do not need a website to confess sin. I would not think this is the same as confessing sin to God. If I told my husband a joke would it be the same as telling my neighbor a joke? No! We are blessed to be able to go directly to God with our confessions, joys, sorrows, or whatever else you want to tell Him. Why would you want to post your sins on a website anyway? I would want that information to be strictly between God and myself.

I saw it on television, and the pastor who is the website owner said its supposed to be the first step to an in-person confession.

I think you should confess them to god and ask for his forgiveness.

I don't think you need something or somebody to confess your sins to. So as long as you can make your confession directly to God, alone in your heart, why would you need a web site for confession. I don't think it is a good or needed. We don't need a person to be in touch with God, if we have Him in our souls and hearts we don't need someone to show us the way. Nice topic!

No, I do not believe in confessing your sins to a priest is the same as confessing to god. As many of you have heard about the controversy surrounding the catholic church. There were a lot of priests that have been molesting children and the churches have been trying to cover it up. People sin and are not perfect creatures, and God is perfect. And confessing online is not a good thing, I wouldn't want to tell my mistakes, inner most feelings to a stranger.

Yes, I understand, if a person confessed online, it might also open a legal "can of worms" as far as responsibility to report a crime; or confidentiality.
