I love the Bean movies and the TV shows. The original Mr Bean without the talking does remind me of the style of Eric Sykes, who did great non speaking comedies like "The Plank". I do recall Rowan Atkinson back in the early 80s in a new style comedy in the UK called "Not the 9 O'clock News" which was named as it started on the alternate BBC2 channel at the same time as the BBC's main(BBC1) channel ran with the 9pm News. Very good series. I have just seen Mr Bean's Holiday and again it is funny and clever, although, it does appear that Mr Bean's character is a little less "pathetic".

I love Mr Bean series. It's so funny. Too bad there is no more. I've watched Mr Bean's Holiday too. It's good but somehow I felt it is missing something. I don't know. I love Rowan Atkinson. Have you watch his old series Black Adder ?? I was shock when I heard him talk, Johnny English as well. I wasn't used to him talking a lot. In Black Adder, he's a clever genius dude.

I watched all the Black Adder series and the Mr Bean character is more in line with his first Black Adder series, where he is a bumbling idiot. You are right about his smartness in the other Black Adders, my favourite is the 2nd series based around Queen Victoria I reign. The first Black Adder series is often not associated with the other 3, as the writers changed and I don't think at the time, it was that big a hit. Rowan Atkinson was a co-writer for BA the first and I can see the similarities in writing with the Mr Bean character. When the second series hit, some of the actors changed and so did Edmund. The second series was great as Edmund was a butler to Prince Regent, played by Hugh Laurie, who is now plying his trade as Dr House in "House".

Mr Bean is not typically British humor, so, maybe that is why you like it. Thank you for responding.
