Films - "I am Legend"...

Hi film buffs, I'd just like to draw attention to one of Will Smith's more recent movies, "I am Legend", for a couple of reasons. "I am Legend" is a story about one guy who is amongst a very few left uninfected in the world by a man-made contagion which has turned everyone else into zombies. I give this film a very low rating, somewhwre around 2-3 out of 10. "I am Legend" is a re-make (or rip-off, depending on your view of things) of a 1971 film called "The Omega Man", starring Charelton Heston (have a look here for more info - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Omega_Man ). In my humble opinion, "The Omega Man" is a BRILLIANT film. It's an arguably B-Grade movie with a superb plot and great acting, and makes for riveting, edge-of-the-seat viewing from start to finish. And the ending is not what you'd expect, for those who haven't seen it. In contrast, "I am Legend" is a slow, tedious effort that attempts to make up for the lack of substance with fancy special effects. This film is just plain boring. No character development, hardly any action of note, nothing to really engage the viewer in the guts of the hollowed-out story. And just when it seems to be getting a bit of life into it - the film abruptly ends, and ends on a really lame premise that I suppose is intended to pull our heart strings, but instead had me looking around to find something else to do - even watching the dry paint dry some more would be more entertaining. Bottom line - if the concept behind "I am Legend" seems appealing to you, go to the video store and rent "The Omega Man" instead. It's the original, and in this case, the best option by far.
