They eloped in October 1976, and officially got married in South Cotabato, Philippines on January 1977. They were both young, the girl was just 21 while the guy was 23. The guy was then the bread winner of his family, but eventually, he parttake the responsibility of a family man and a husband.
Their first boy came out on July 1977, then it was followed by an only girl in December 1978. Then the 2nd boy (and the 3rd) came on August 1981 while the youngest boy came August 1984.
They both did not finish their degrees in college. The mother of 4 decided to go back to school and finished her degree, while the father studied while working. They wanted the best for their children, that's why they decided to go back to college and studied.
In 1998, the father decided to leave for Saudi inorder to give his children the best education they could have. The mother continued with her teaching job to support the family. Came 2003, when the 2nd boy (3rd of the children) died. The death of their son was the very least they expected. Their hearts were broken into pieces... but with faith and the support of their loved ones, they were able to redeem themselves.
In 2006, their eldest got married. In that same year, they have to leave for the states because they were petitioned. They have started from scratch again in a foreign land, but always, with the thought that they still wanted to give the best for their children. Then, their latest addition to the family came -- their grandchild, Cyd.
Right now, they still are struggling in the states, but they reassure their daughter that they are fine.
--
They are my parents -- my nanay and my tatay... they are the very reason of partly who I am and what I am now. They will be celebrating their 31st anniversary on the 22nd. This will be their 2nd wedding anniversary in the states. I just miss them so much. :)
