Artemis Fowl books.

My sister realized that I enjoyed the Harry Potter books, even though they were written for kids and I am not a kid by any stretch. Thus, she thought I might like the series about Artemis Fowl. She has purchased three books by now. In reading these books, I find that they are enjoyable from a certain young child point of view. It is different, however, than the Harry Potter books which were somehow more engaging to even an adult mindset. In the Artemis Fowl books, they have a 'second civilization' like the Wizards and Muggles of the Harry Potter series. However, the second civilization is that of the Fairies and the Lower Elements Police Recon unit. (LEPrecon) The fairies use magic and high tech equipment to do magical and sci-fi like things to hide themselves from the Mud People (humans). Anyway, my question is: 1) Are any of you fans of this series? 2) How does it compare for you to the Harry Potter series?

The way you have described it I think I would look for one of the books of Artemis Fowl. :) Have you read star dust? Star dust is also one cool book. :D

I have not read Stardust. Is it related to the movie that was out recently?

I saw the movie Stardust about a month ago. It was pretty good.

I read the first book in the series. It's cutesy to me. It's a quick read, but I didn't really enjoy it. I haven't read the rest in the series. I look at it as being something more for like 10-12 year olds. I'm not trying to insult anyone. I just found it to be lacking. I love young adult fiction but this one was a little too young for me.

I would have to agree with you, but the second and third book were more enjoyable for me.

You might like the books of Kim Harrison which I've just been introduced to through another MyLot poster.

I haven't read any of them, but you've got me interested. Are they enjoyable or too immature for an adult reader. I like to read fantasy once in a while, but I prefer if the book is accessible to all ages. A good example is Alice in Wonderland.

You probably feel more like you are reading a book for a teenager than when you read the Harry Potter books, but still enjoyable for an adult. You have to get into the second book, I think, before the setting takes shape in your mind. (Or, perhaps it is changes in Artemis Fowl's character which makes the latter books an easier read.)

Although I've never read any and in fact have never heard of them you've peaked my interest and now I'll have to start looking for them. They sound like a lot of fun to read. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I am a huge Harry Potter fan as well and eventhough I read the Artemis Fowl books with my pre-teen boys, I found that I really did enjoy them also. Not to the extent of Harry Potter, but something to read while I was waiting for the next HP installment. I think my favorite one was the Eternity Code. It just seemed to use everyone's unique abilities and had a good twist ending. Though I loved the ending of Arctic Incident too - that was clever. I didn't like the Lost Colony as much as the others but I am intriqued by Artemis' new friend, Miranda or something like that - sorry, its been a while.

I have not read any of the books. I know that my brother has read some of them, and my mom has one. I don't know if she has read it or not. I liked the Harry Potter books, so I might pick up one of their copies to read sometime and check it out.
