Helium's marketplace deadlines

This week I submitted 2 articles to marketplace titles, and I noticed after the deadline there are still new articles submitted. That bugs me. I worked really hard to get mine in before the deadline, and other people are still submitting, even a few days later. For those who have written to the marketplace, how long does it usually take for the publisher to make a selection?

I have only been writing at helium for a few months and I must say I love it! Until recently I have lacked the confidence to write for the marketplace. That and the fact that I could never seem to find a suitable title. The publishers have 15 days after the submissions deadline to get back to Helium if they wish to select an article for further publication. Helium will notify you directly if you are selected. If you are not selected a list of selected writers appears on one of the community boards. So I guess if you haven't heard anything 2 weeks after the closing date check out the community boards to see who was selected (if anyone) As for the deadline issue, while writers can still submit after the deadline these are not forwarded to the publisher for consideration. Hope that helps.

That helps very much, thank you. I am glad you enjoy Helium, I do too. I haven't written to many marketplace titles, I only do it if there is a title that really catches my attention. I am crossing my fingers but not holding my breath. I understand what you mean about lacking confidence. Have you tried the members' feedback forum? The people there are very helpful without being too critical. It has done wonders for my writing skills as well as my confidence.

Thanks, LouRhi, for sharing this information. I have never tried submitting to the Marketplace yet. It always seems like the deadlines are expired when I go to look at the topics. It's definitely on my list of things to try in the New Year. I appreciate you sharing the selection information for Helium with us all.

I've noticed that also, but my understanding is that after the deadline the article title becomes a general topic in Helium. I'm just amazed about how many people do submit to the market place.

I am sure it is the incentive to make more money from Helium. I think people do the contests for the same reason. It's not that the topics are so appealing, it's the financial reward if you are selected. Have you tried writing anything for Marketplace?

Yes that is correct the topics are still available for writing. The number of writers is quite large but not for all topics I recently came across which only had two writers. Here is a link if you are interested in a read www.helium.com/tm/773236 Unfortunately it has passed the deadline but at least it shows small numbers in the marketplace do exist!

Good question I submitted a couple a few weeks ago and got them in way before the deadline and never heard back. I am really getting tired of that site because its like no matter how hard you work and how many articles you send in its like you are not making any progress at least I am not.

There is a forum there where they list the selected authors, so if you are curious you can check there to see if the publisher has selected an author. It is very possible that they haven't yet. I read one publisher's profile that said they may well take a couple of months to choose. I wrote asking because I am hoping that is not the norm and that most publishers are quicker. It takes time to build up your portfolio on Helium, and I still have less than 40 articles there. I am there mostly for the experience and the feedback. The main reason I wrote to the marketplace is because I was reading the titles looking for something to write about and I found some that interested me. Of course, it would be nice if my article is selected. I have a link to my articles in my profile if you are interested in reading any of my work.
