According to me both terrorism and global warming are the two major threats which are looming very large in this world. I think people have to be made aware of these and act accordingly.

I think that the greatest threat to the world is terrorism because a lot of innocent people can get hurt and worse can even get killed because of it.

In my personal opinion I think that the greatest threat right now is terrorism because look at what they did to us on september 11 2001...they really scared and killed alot of people....so if they did it once they can easily do it again. I think the greatest threat in the long term matter is global warming because it just seems like alot of people doesn't care about global warming or what they are doing to this world...and alot of people cant really help it(like I read the other day that in one hour a gas powered lawn mower puts off as much pollution as 11 cars do, and everyone has to cut their grass)

I think that the greater threat than both of these examples would be GREED. if not for greed so many ills of this great planet would be eradicated. Greed perhaps feeds the terrorist groups too? greed for acknowledgement (pride) greed for power (envy?) perhaps it is also human greed and want that has caused the threat of global warming as well?

terrorism - face of terrorism
Hi anup12,Terrorism is a criminal act that influences an audience beyond the immediate victim. The strategy of terrorists is to commit acts of violence that .draws the attention of the local populace, the government, and the world to their cause. The terrorists plan their attack to obtain the greatest publicity, choosing targets that symbolize what they oppose. The effectiveness of the terrorist act lies not in the act itself, but in the public’s or government’s reaction to the act. There are three perspectives of terrorism: the terrorist’s, the victim’s, and the general public’s. The phrase “one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter” is a view terrorists themselves would accept. Terrorists do not see themselves as evil. They believe they are legitimate combatants, fighting for what they believe in, by whatever means possible. A victim of a terrorist act sees the terrorist as a criminal with no regard for human life. The general public’s view is the most unstable. The terrorists take great pains to foster a “Robin Hood” image in hope of swaying the general public’s point of view toward their cause. This sympathetic view of terrorism has become an integral part of their psychological warfare and needs to be countered vigorously.

Hi anup, I agree that these are very great threats to the world. People must learn to live together in peace for the sake of future generations. If there was ever a time when we needed leaders with sound minds, it is now. Let us hope that religious fanatics are kept out of government positions everywhere, and that reasonable people are able to convince their followers the need to respect the beliefs of others, no matter how different from their own. It's important too, that governments everywhere pass tougher laws respecting global warming. We must all do our part, but unfortunely there are always those who will do nothing, if given a choice. Blessings.

I'm not so sure I believe completely in the whole global warming theory. In the part of the country I live in, I haven't really seen any evidence of it. I believe that the weather runs in bigger cycles than we can acknowledge. Take for example the recent ice storm we just had before Christmas. The last time we had a bad ice storm around this area was 1984. This one was far worse in my opinion, as with the one in 1984, we warmed right back up above freezing and it melted off quickly. This time around, we have just now had a few days that remained above freezing in the last week. (three weeks later) What if in fact, we are in a larger cycle? Did we not have a giant melt off thousands of years ago? I have noticed that winter seems to be coming later in the year, but at the same instance, I have noticed that spring is coming later too. This last year we had snow accumulation in April here. It used to be that we had our last snow fall by the first part of March. If global warming was truly taking place wouldn't the winters just be slowly becoming warmer, summers becoming hotter with no backsliding? I thnk terrorism is a bigger threat, but I also believe that we may be creating some paranoia. People think that what a person looks like determines what their intentions are. I do not have a problem with the Mexicans who come across the border to work here. I do not have a problem with Canadians coming to work here. We have jobs abundant that most US Citizens would not take because they think it is beneath them. What I have noticed here in the USA, is that while people continue to complain about unemployment, we have people coming from other countries who are getting jobs making 12$ an hour or more that speak barely any english, but will take that job making 12$ an hour and do their jobs well and work hard. What I see is that there are so many in the USA that think that certain jobs are below them, regardless if they have the education to do a better paying job or not. These same people complain that Mexicans are stealing all of the jobs. I assure you, if an American person applied for that roof taring job making 8$ an hour, they would get the job over the Mexican. But that is the problem. There are so many jobs that don't pay well, and the work is very difficult, and we as citizens of the USA have become lazy or have decided that those jobs are demeaning. Meanwhile, our country has become a place where people from all over the world see that there are jobs here that they would gladly take because they could never make that kind of money in their country. So we have continued to let them come in on work visa's or even to come here to go to school, and we have not screened these people properly. The men who flew the planes into the world trade center were trained to fly planes right here in our very own country. How wrong is that? Now we don't know which direction the terrorists are coming from because they are adapting. It's been said that now they are coming in through Mexico, learning the language there, and coming in to the US from the Mexico Border. I think honnestly the biggest threat to this world is that schools, at least here in the USA, are no longer teaching children the basics. Kids now can't count change back without the cash register telling them how much to give. I think children do no worry about spelling properly or using correct grammar and punctuation because they have become dependant on Spell Check. Our teachers are threatened with their jobs if the children do not pass these tests the government has come up with to determine if kids are learning, and the basics are being pushed aside. I am not saying they need to do away with the testing of high school kids, but pusing this on kids still in elementary school is rediculous. These tests pressure the teachers into worrying about only the things covered in the tests and alot of times basics get pushed by the wayside. We have "New Math", we have "Phonetic Reading". What ever happend to "See Spot Run" or fun with "Richard (rules won't let me use the actual title) and Jane"? Our kids know how to fix computers, but can't spell simple words or don't know the difference between there, their and they're. Kids aren't taught to think for themselves anymore. They use programs to test their knowlege of a book they read instead of writing a book report. Their vocabulary has been limited because they are not taught to spell words, learn their meaning and how to use them.

For me, the greastest threat is terrorism. It is such a scourge that we need to eradicate it. The imoportance is that you have to get the smart guys thinking about "Global Warming," but that won't happen until the terrorism issue is solved. Besides, because of the politicalization of the issue, nobody knows the truth behind global warming.
